So I got pulled over for something else today which I got a warning for but he gave me a fix-it ticket for the front plate. As I’ve mentioned in other threads on here I haven’t had a front plate since I was 16. Here’s my question to everyone who may have done this. Has anybody temporarily put on their front bracket maybe with double sided tape or something without drilling holes to get it inspected and looked at and then removed it again. Which is what I plan on doing. I’m just looking for some ideas of how it was done. Thanks for any feedback.

Have you considered a hide a plate? I forget the exact name but it mounts under the car and folds out and up to display the plate when needed. Another option that some GT350 guys have is a plate frame that screws into the tow hook hole. Don't know where they got them from or if they fabbed them up themselves, but it's something to look into. There are several on amazon starting at 20 bucks.

I would be afraid of the double sided tape damaging the paint.

I agree about the double sided tape but if anything it’s gonna be on the car for five or 10 minutes because it’s coming off the second I leave the police station. I looked into the show and go but I’d rather just have nothing.

Sto N Show is a good option. Good to have around in case you ever get another fix it ticket too. I’d be hesitant to use the 3M tape but I suppose it would work. Not any different than removing a spoiler or badge that’s held on by tape when you’re done with it. As long as it holds while you’re driving to/from the inspection

3m double sided tape won’t hurt your paint, If you do this when you take it off: use fishing line to saw it off, then get rid of the rest of it with goo gone, soak it for a good 10 minutes before you start rubbing it off. Your paint will be fine.

Unless the stow and show has a button inside the car to automatically retract it wouldn’t have helped me. I was pulled over on the side of the highway and there’s no way I can get out of the car to pull it down. In front of him.

No, you have to pop it in and out

They make them PP and non-PP GT’s as well as Mach 1’s. Just something if you don’t want a permanent front plate

Just go in and ask for the ticket, and pay it and don't get the temporary plate.

Easy peasy. Also, please report back on how this goes. I always thought about doing this if I ever had a similar ticket 😂

Will do. Maybe it’s different there but here you have to go to any police station and get it signed off that you got it fixed and the go to court to prove it. Day off of work and maybe still a fine. Aholes. Not worries at all. Nobody is making me drill my front fascia.

I don’t run a front license plate either, but was taking a road trip from Texas to Colorado and didn’t want to get pulled over for something like that. So I put a microfiber cloth between the license plate and the bumper and used some REALLY BIG zip ties to hold it in place.

There you go. That’s exactly what I’m talking about. That is exactly what I’m looking for. Well done sir. All I can tell them is I don’t want my front bumper drilled.

Get a rectangle of ppf

put on bumper as base

get double sided sticky tape
Put behind on license plate

slap plate onto PPF

wont go anywhere

zero damage and fully removeable PPF can be removed years later too using steam too

could use high quality sticky Velcro if want to be able pop plate on and off PPF

Look up your license plate laws for your state. They vary by state, but there could be “loopholes”.

For instance NJ is a “front plate state”, however the statues/law only states the front plate must be displayed and not more than 40” from the ground. It does not say the front plate has to be mounted to a specific location on the front of a vehicle, it does not state it must be in a plate holder, it does not state it must be secured to the front bumper cover of the vehicle. It just says it must be displayed and no more than 40” high..

So people throw the front plate on their dash, which is displaying it and it’s in line with the height of no more than 40” off the ground.

I could drive with the plate strapped to my forehead and still be “displaying it” all within the written law…

I posted the actual statue in another “plate” thread on here a bit ago…

So check your actual State statues/laws with how it’s worded for a front plate - just because the State requires a front plate, it may not be written that it has to be screwed into your front bumper cover…. :) If it’s worded like NJ, print the statue and keep it in your glove box (or keep the book marked statue on your phone). If you need to go to court, bring a copy to court and say your plate was displayed on top of the dash the whole time…

This got me through my first MOT / inspection :

Yeah all good, after a last min addition which I added on the forecourt :

Which also fell off on the forecourt just before the journey home :giggle:

Position the pads so there is no plate to paint contact.

They stick really well, but they remove really cleanly, especially on non porous surfaces when used for short time periods (less than a year or so). We use them quite a lot around the house, we have permanently mounted picture frames with them, and all the Christmas lights are currently held up with them.

Might be a different brand name for you, but in the UK :
