I can see where the chips get the hood and higher up areas but doesn't the side skirts keep the bottom areas protected? My build just got in so Monday I go pick her up so this has me a little curious.

No comment more than it is going to be an expensive repair

New Xpel film on the hood and (spot)respray or the whole hood.... :crying:

We've all been there and it sucks lol. You don't even have to be tired for this to happen. Humans on average make 3-6 errors / mistakes an hour (on average) and this goes up with impairment. Whether it's drugs / sleep deprivation or whatever makes you not perform as you normally would.

Possibly a good paint guy could touch it up / wet sand / blend and then have it re xpel'd. That's the cheapest route and probably what id do. I'd be too afraid of the entire hood not matching the car or them doing a poor blend job into the fenders. This will also be much more expensive.

My time was when I was installing new door tweeters and had it just sitting where I wanted it after connecting the wires before mounting the pod for it. The door was open and the tweeter was in the door jamb area. I had to go out of the garage to get something but the door was in my way. Closed it and crushed the tweeter.

I chalk it mostly up to having to work in a cramped up garage and doing too many things at once. That's how it normally happens to me anyways. Shit like this never / rarely happens when working in a larger space with more clearances.

I don't have any chips on the sides at all, but the wheels can pick up rocks and throw them, so it can happen. Splash guards can keep that from happening.

I can imagine how you were feeling.
I just stood there for 30 minutes by myself in the garage and was thinking should I cry or should I scream....

Yes the shop I went to said he will try to put a thin layer and then try to polish the edge absolute last option would be to pain the whole hood :S.
He did not have any slot until late October so I'll have to wait and see.

Agreed a larger garage is needed, next house :)

I had my hood repainted due to corrosion about 6-7 months ago. They did a crappy job and after taking the car to them two more times, I gave up. Went to was the car a few weeks ago and find this rock chip on the hood with the paint lifted around the chip. Looks like improper paint adhesión, surface prep from the dealer. I emailed them a picture and they said it wasn't covered and that it was due to the rock chip. Talked with two other paint specialist which agreed that it was due to improper adhesión and bad preparation. I went back to the dealer and they took some pictures to show the manager, its been two weeks now, last I heard, they were waiting on a response from the paint specialist.

At 1,000 miles I've got three in the nose / hood area that are down into the primer. My ford touch-up paint is already waiting for this weekend and I'm sure it will see regular use. My Civic EXT which was driven every day for 2 1/2 years on the same commute had zero paint chips that were anywhere near this deep when I traded it in, and I know that it got whacked HARD multiple times. The monkeys at the Ford dealer recently managed to scratch the passenger mirror down to the primer just running the car through their car wash. They are going to be replacing that mirror assembly now, but I think that speaks to how easily the paint on the mirrors can be scratched, and I personally will be avoiding automatic car washes.

There is no better bang for the buck than a Mustang, but there is no question that the money that went into building this car went primarily to the drive-train and the perhaps the suspension. They also did a better job on the interior than Chevy did on the Camaro as is widely acknowledged, but it seems that they saved every dollar they could elsewhere. I'm not angry as it took some compromise to have this much performance at this price, just stating how I'm seeing things after the first month of ownership. The weak paint shell is literally a chink in the armor.

about the only way to avoid this is Paint Protection film.. but that gets expensive. Other options are wraps and autoflex coatings....
If you are really serious about keeping the car long term (collectible) take it to a professional paint shop and have it repainted properly when you can stand it no longer...
gone are the days of proper paint jobs

Magnetic metallic here. About 10 visible chips on the hood and above the splitter. Bare metal on the hood. I started with the pen and it came out like crap. I had watched multiple videos and even purchased very fine brushes to handle the small ones. so disappointed. I tripped on Dr. Color Chip and thought what a scam this is. But after many videos I finally broke down and tried them. Wow! I would say that the majority are undetectable and the two that went to bare metal are very good now but certainly not perfect. I did wait a week and then waxed the hood and it looks even better. They did say that the paint typically only lasts as year in storage so don't keep the left over in the garage. You can always purchase just the paint if the sealer is still good. Highly recommended for smaller chips.

I once spoke to a person who works at a Ford dealership while in a social environment. Keep in mind, we weren't talking about the dealership or repairs. We were talking about Mustang colors and I mentioned that I get compliments almost daily on my Ruby Red. Out of the blue this person said, "Whatever you do, don't EVER let them repaint it for any reason. Stick with the OEM paint as long as possible!"

I'm sure I gave them an odd look because they went on, "People get them repainted for this problem or that problem, only to find the repaint is never as strong as the OEM paint. Now, they have many more problems!"

Certainly an interesting conversation that I've filed in the memory banks.

Agreed! I also used the paint pen and all the careful layering & wet sanding/polishing techniques to blend it. Did that for years on multiple cars. Too much work for something that nobody else will notice.

Now, I'm lazy and just use Dr. Colorchip. It gets that "flat" repair effect without all the work. Repairs just look like tiny paint blemishes since it's perfectly even with the surrounding paint. And you have to look very closely to see them. Apply with your thumb, apply again if needed to fill the chip, lightly rub with pink stuff to remove the excess and done! I did 3 chips on the hood a couple of weeks ago in about 10 minutes...taking my time...while drinking a beer.

700 miles on my 2019 magnetic metallic and i already have a rock chip! My car is immaculate except for this chip...and to make things more sucky is the rock chip was found the day I was getting the entire car ceramic coated. I know CC isn't 100% insurance against chips...but perhaps i I had just gotten this done a little sooner I'd be chip free.

Here's a pic from the most flattering angle of my touch up job using OEM J7. Is Dr. Color Chip that much better? I don't care if you can tell up close...I just want to not notice this from a few feet away.

My chip still looks darker from a distance and you can definitely tell it's there. I'm getting so much anxiety over this, it sucks. Brand new car... :(

I fixed all of my chips(only had like 4) with a paint/clearcoat pen(not Dr colorchip), a piece of card stock to flatten the application, and a steady hand. They aren't 100%, but they're a good 80% and for $30 I'll take it
