  1. Show us your rock chips!

This made me laugh. I'm the guy that parks WAY out in the parking lot but it doesn't matter sometimes....a guy in an old beater can pull up and park ten inches away from me as soon as I'm out of sight, despite there being dozens of empty spaces much closer to the business. There must be some...

I look at the tested 3.9 suspecting the following: hand-selected car from Ford, sticky surface with plenty of rubber on it, low ambient temperature, 110 pound driver, a single gallon of gas in the tank, tires warmed up by a couple of good hearty burnouts, possibly low tire pressure, possibly...
  3. Show us your rock chips!

Painted the four deepest and widest chips yesterday, doing the clear coat today..nose, roof, and hood. All of these cars should come new with Ford touch-up paint of the corresponding color in the glove box.

Did another run this morning 62 degrees ambient, but held the revs a touch too high and got way too much wheel spin. The fact that I got a 4.7 with that amount of wheel spin makes me think that 4.5 should be totally doable with a more controlled launch, so maybe another day.

Here's my one and only attempt so far. 80 degrees ambient, tires are cheap Federal SS595 275/40 R18's that I got for $90 per tire just so that I could get my new tire wheel size on the car (Michelins will be next after I burn through these). No burnout before attempt. Held at about 1500 RPM at...
  6. Show us your rock chips!

Funny you ask. The car I traded in for my Mustang was a 2016 Civic EXT (same color even). And it's not even close. After over two years I had far less rock chips (and they were shallower) than my Mustang has with three months of driving the same routes every day. The paint job on my mustang is...
  7. Coming from a 2016 Camaro SS....

I've driven the SS and my GT both 2019's and the Camaro is a great car, I can't lie. I LOVE the low RPM torque in the Camaro, which is huge in the real world. I've learned driving my Mustang to think more proactively when it comes to acceleration....to plan ahead with where my pedal and revs...
  8. 275 45/R18 Square Setup On S550?

I got the 275/40R18-9.5" square setup on today and wanted to share what it looks like. Finally, some respectable-width tires on a 460 HP car. I mean, I love the car, but 235's stock? Anyway...the overall change in appearance was surprisingly un-dramatic, as you can see in the attached picture...
  9. 275 45/R18 Square Setup On S550?

Great pictures, and input, thanks. Your car looks very nice OlTexastang, as does your wheel / tire package. I know that some might say that 245/45's might have a bit too much of a fat-tire look, but I prefer more sidewall for the "war zone" type roads I have to drive over. If I had really nice...
  10. 275 45/R18 Square Setup On S550?

Yes, I used that calculator to determine that my diameter will be reduced by 2.2% with the my new 40 series tires when compared to the stock 235s, it's a great tool. I dug a bit more this afternoon and visited my nearby discount tire who happens to sell the wheel I want. They informed me that...
  11. What car has the most obnoxious drivers when you drive your S550.

Prius drivers, no contest here in Phoenix. I make sure not to end up behind one at a red light. Even if the car in the next lane is the worst beater I've seen all day, it will be car-lengths ahead of the Prius seconds after the light turns green. Anyone who can't figure out that a Prius costs...
  12. 275 45/R18 Square Setup On S550?

Thanks, and it seems 10" is the common wheel width for that tire. I'm probably in a small minority but prefer a bit of sidewall bulge and the wheels I really like (Konig Oversteer) only come in 18x8 and 18X9, so I'm somewhat committed to that 9" width. A positive is that this 18x9 wheel weighs...
  13. 275 45/R18 Square Setup On S550?

I'm getting ready to get some decent rubber on my month-old car (stock 2019 GT - non-PP) and considering options, looking for thoughts. I'm currently still running the stock 235 50/R18's and am considering 275 45/R18 on 9" wheels, square setup. I understand that this size should work up front...

Has anyone tried a 0-60 run with stock 18" 235's just to find out how much slower it is?
  15. Break in, what break in?

Sort of how I'm seeing it as well. Of course Ford wants everyone to play it extra safe, and it's certainly not going to hurt to do so, but once you've looked at the type of torture testing the coyote has endured with the engine left functionally perfect afterwards, it's pretty unlikely in my...
  16. Show us your rock chips!

At 1,000 miles I've got three in the nose / hood area that are down into the primer. My ford touch-up paint is already waiting for this weekend and I'm sure it will see regular use. My Civic EXT which was driven every day for 2 1/2 years on the same commute had zero paint chips that were...
  17. Ford full Abuse test Coyote engine

I just bought my new Mustang a three weeks back after being "Mustangless" since I sold my 2006 GT years ago to help buy a house and it was good to see this. As someone who's been driving other things since 2009, this was all news to me. In my first week I just couldn't resist playing around...
