OP, you may have already found this thread, but ZL1's rock guards are hardly noticeable. I put them on at the same time I put on new wheels, which are flush with the fenders. No chips anywhere on the side of my car.

If you really care about protecting your paint, clear film is the best and most expensive way.

When you come from Subaru paint, you think Ford's paint is superior. I have some here and there but I've probably got at least 6k miles just on the highway (15k total) so considering, it's still not bad. I have one on the roof pillar by the rear glass because I accidently dinged it with a pressure washer tip at the car wash. The paint is definitely soft.

Mines got 11K on it and the front bumper/plastic has tons of tiny chips. the hood seems ok so far. I just bought some 3m clear bra vinyl and did the main flat bumper behind the plate for a whole 10$. But yeah, this is nuts how easy that front plastic bumper area chips. I can see myself just buying a new one in 3-4 years at this rate.

I've found white is the best color to hide imperfections on the front bumpers. When you get darker colors you get the "sand-blast" look.

My car yesterday after washing it. I got a new front bumper @ 1500 miles so it has roughly 13500 miles on it but still not bad considering. I have a few small spots that are down to the black, ABS plastic.

Xpel Ultimate is self healing and you don't have to deal with any rock chips at all. I actually had a rock hit my lower bumper and knicked the Xpel in a spot. Few days later and some sunlight, the knick healed up and I can't even see where it happened. I think it's a pretty wise investment, but it's pricey up front. Keeps your paint looking pristine too and has a long warranty. I was sold the day I saw it actually defend itself against a rock hit like that.

My Corolla had the entire front done for $1000 along with the mirrors. 2 years later and my front still looks pristine.

Eh, its held up so far where I applied. It was only a few hundred to get done the spots I did. By the end of this month it'll be a year, and on my stepfather's Challenger it's been two years. Both are holding up great so far, haven't had to reapply anything yet.

I do have a bottle of Dr. Colorchip that I'm going to use to repair some chips this weekend. I'll post some before/after pics.

Maybe after a few years if you leave your car in the sun always. Mine are mostly garaged both at work and at home.
