Few engine modifications are legal in CA. Even normal repairs can be difficult. I routinely have trouble ordering parts off the internet where Amazon or some other retailer will not ship the parts to CA. Not performance parts, normal parts. Sometimes even OEM parts. Very annoying.

I understand how a tuner might stop "other", i.e., electrical based items, from working but how on earth does it stop a catalytic converter and particulate filters from working?!

But God forbid a company makes ECU tuning software to “turn off catalytic converters and particulate filters”, yet Joe Blow can go fill up his private aircraft on leaded fuel and dust the sky with no emissions equipment.

Scary time to be at a tuning company. Wonder if they’ll try to pursue COBB or any smaller tuners for disabling emissions features.

I’m going to go live in a condom so I’m safe from the world and all it’s bad stuff.

Stuff like that is already in place. Whenever you flash a tune you have to acknowledge that the devise is not intended for use in CA and is for off road use only.
