Looking for recommendations for a rather stock besides suspension and exhaust 2017 GT Performance Package. My front brakes have 56k miles on them and they’re in need of replacements now.

not looking to break the bank, (no I’m not looking to cheap out but I don’t need a set of rotors and pads for $600.)

should I just stick to OEM?

Oem are good with initial bite but i found them to dust way too much. Switched to power stop Z26 pads(i think thats themodel or Z23). Work just as good less initial bite but stopping power is the same and way less brake dust. Run these pads on my focus rs as well and they work great!!

I 2nd the Z26 pads. I bought them from rockauto. They are about $70. I've run 3 HPDE with these and zero brake fade. I'm going to be replacing these in the spring and sticking with the same ones. I feel like the initial bite is less aggressive but overall braking feels just as strong. The main reason I even tried these was because there is way less brake dust.

Just the pads? Stick to OE rotors?

Third the Z26s. The provide equal if not better braking than stock, less dust and for 1/3rd the cost.
What about the rotors? Stick to OE? Or get matching powerstop?

Depends on what you're doing with the car. If it's just for the street, nothing more than OEM (or OEM like) is needed. For a heavy use track car, you might benefit from some better alloy but at that point you'll probably need a better pad anyway. Just get something that has some sort of coating on the rotor hats and vanes to prevent rust.

Replace your rotors when they've worn below the depth to replace them. Until then no need to touch them unless they're in bad condition in some way.

As for pads, the OEM ones are pretty fantastic if you can tolerate the dust. If you want something which dusts less, you're probably trading off some heat tolerance, so that just depends on your needs.

The rotors are definitely getting there. They need replacing for sure.

Just street driving, no track/strip.

Have you measured thickness with a caliper ?

Lots of people tend to think they need replace pads / rotors when they're nowhere near that point.

Rear brakes especially need replacement pretty much never.

Sooooo do I take them to go get turned somewhere? I’m sure they’re alright. They still stop on a dime, it’s just my brake pads are worn down so much.

Just throw new pads on unless they're different than what you've been using (compound-wise) than use a sand paper to clean them. But check first if the pads are low. I've changed pads in the pads and it turned out I change pads to change them, not because I needed to.

PowerStop Z26 pads are great! If you're keeping the same rotors get them turned.

Just get the cheapest blank you can get from rockauto
….and before anyone says that you need “better”, it’s what i have been using ( with Cobalt xr1 pads ) for years on my track car with no issues whatsoever
