Here's my setup:

My car has the driver assist package and I'm able to hold my R7 in place with their big suction cup on that plastic housing. I couldn't bring myself to spend the $100 for a blendmount holder, even $50 would be overpriced IMO.

I was able to mirror tap it fine, I just did what this guy did:
I picked up an R7 today and immediately tried the exact same thing but mine fell in less than a minute. Yours has no problem staying there? I'll try again tomorrow when I run a power tap, maybe i'll wipe it with ipa also.

I saw a permanent mount, basically a bracket with 3m that I considered for the same spot also. It's less than 10 bucks.

Thanks

The false alerts are gone with the updated FW. I never have them.
If you pair the V1 with JBV1 there's not one detector out there that can beat it.
I use an iPhone. Not gonna buy another phone for an app.

I wiped the plastic with IPA and ran the suction cup under a faucet. They stick better if you wet them.

There's great apps for the iPhone. Even the free official V1 app is great. The phone acts as a remote so you can run dark, and even incorporates the speed detection so the detector won't sound if below a set speed. This was formerly a separate part that they still sell that becomes unnecessary now.

I run Android stuff too, but I really like how the iPhone sees and connects to the V1 as soon as I open the app, every time. With my android OBD and also with the car bluetooth I occasionally have to force a connection.

Read Vortex's reviews. I don't want to deal with constant false alarms and no built in GPS in 2021 is a complete joke.
"Constant false alarms?"

My V1 is typical. Like all detectors, you turn down the built-in logic you get more falses, but also more information.

I tend to think the V1 got it right omitting location awareness because a flaky GPS is worse than none at all. And they are all inaccurate. But if it's user selectable it's cool.

Everyone has a different experience I guess.

One in Alexandria. If you want, I can search for the company name.

I watched them take a C7 dash/console apart, hide the detector in the front end of the car, with a discrete, hidden control panel in the console somewhere.
Just curious if you have the name of the shop handy - feel free to DM me if that is a concern. Spend most of my time in VA and DC so interested to hear what they can do/determine if it might be worthwhile. Thanks.

I own V1 Gen 1 and Gen 2. I had to repair Gen 1 because it lost audio function. I need radar detector to do its best in radar reporting, ahead, side and rear which helps me determine the source's location. I can do w/o GPS or Red Light camera alert function as my Garmin provides that.

I think V1 is the best detector around. I could be miles away from police radar on an Interstate, but when I hear one quick beep, I know it's lying ahead waiting to shoot. Every time, and I get alerted.

just installed my R3 yesterday and tonight was out burning off the remainder of 93, the R3 went off on the Ka band about 1/2 mile before my exit. lo and behold while I was exiting saw him parked on the gore point using handheld. pretty cool.

I wasn't able to tap into the power source behind the mirror. I kept bending the pins. Love this unit though.

It's REALLY easy to insert the pins. Just push gently straight in to the side of the wire.

I second thunderstrike's comments on V1 Gen2. I had an original Passport that I replaced with a V1 Gen 1 in 2001. Got the V1 Gen 2 last year and find it very trustworthy. Here's my V1 Gen2 with a blendmount -- high and tight.

Nice. Please post extra pic from side so we can see how it's mounted.

Per your request. I tried to get a shot through the windshield too, but too much glare.

Mine hangs down much lower for some reason.
