I avoid running regular unless it is an absolute fucking emergency..... And having done the math before, the better fuel economy achieved with premium more than pays for the difference in cost. Because really what is it, an extra $0.20/gallon? In a 15 gallon fill that's $3, or another gallon of crap regular gas. For me it is worth it.
Agree with your statement here, I have spent a long time arguing this with older Co workers that run 87 in there vehicles that should be running premium but they don't want to hear it lol. They can save there $3 a week lol.

We don't seem to have 93 octane available. Every where I look the best they have is 91. One station might have 93 100% gas, but it is $4.69 a gallon. 91 premium is as low as $2.19/gal.

If it's that big a difference in price I can understand using the lesser grade fuel but if it's only a few dollars less a tank then it's not worth it to me to use 87.

I don't understand why you'd want to run premium if all you plan on doing is setting the cruise at 75 and hitting the interstate for 8 hrs.

That's about the only scenario I can see 87 being more desirable.

If you're talking about E85, then yes, it does have a high octane rating. I don't know Ford's stance on it in the Ecoboost (it is not advertised as a flex fuel vehicle). However, you will get about 30% worse fuel economy burning it (less energy density than gasoline=more fuel to burn). I would consult the owner's manual first, as running that much alcohol can cause damage to fuel system components if they're not designed for it, not to mention high pressure injector pumps (which the Ecoboost engine has one of...) ;)

You would need a few mods to run the E85 straight up. Not worth it without substantial mods IMO.

Rule of thumb is to run a 30% blend, no more than 40%.

You must not drive out West much then...you'd want the extra power when downshifting at high altitude, passing going uphill, etc. Not to mention that if you fill up in town on regular and drive through a mountain pass, you just might discover that the 86 octane you filled up with in the last town is more like 84 octane going through the pass...:eyebulge:(altitude causes the octane rating of the fuel to drop).

Based on the power curve available w/ 87 octane the difference would be negligible for the handful of times you may find you need to pass at the 'high altitude' seen in the Cascades. Note the sarcasm...outside of the random volcano you can't drive to the top of, the NW does not have anything really considered high altitude...most of the mountains are the same elevation as the high plains of eastern Colorado. If you want to burn 91/93 for steady state cruising on road trips, be my guest.

Also note that altitude does NOT 'cause octane to drop'.

Shouldn't you be in El Paso or Tijuana anyway?;)

If everyone just searched old posts, how freakin boring would this forum be? A new question every two days? Because let's face it....every possible question regarding S550s has probably been asked on 6G once before.
You don't check this forum every day hoping there's no new posts right? It's a car forum which is a lot like a big living room with lots of bean bag chairs, couches and mood lighting. And we all chill here, sometimes when we're off work or sometimes while at work but bored and some of us are drunk, or high, or stupid.
But that's why we hang out here....it would be really boring and quiet if we were all sitting here reading to ourselves.

Oh!...and I try to use octane free gas...those octanes ruin your turboencabulator.
Couldnt agree more. Its like having a group of friends who all own stangs, then here comes the new guy who just got his stang. Let him ask questions. Who cares if these questions already exist. Just be helpful.

I havent received my 5fiddy yet. Once I do im driving until I hit E, and filling my baby up with 91. 93 when I take it to the track in November.

is it not true that with the eco, you lose a substantial amount of HP if you use regular gas? I have an eco, but I have always used premium gas. Am I wasting my money in doing so?
to me when i got the crap 87 out of the tank when i bought it and put in some 93 it became a whole nother car, i literally asked out loud why the f would the dealer not put premium on these for test drives?
