Poll: Cosmetic vs Performance

I have some expendable funds and I can't decide between cosmetic changes vs performance upgrade

Not sure how far away Wichita is from you but there is a Ford Performance dealer there.
What dealer is it? I can't seem to find it on the Ford Performance website.

Such a great and subjective thread.

The platform is flexible for many different uses... 1/4 mile killer, Track star, Streetstalker, Hard parker whatever you want but it's up to you to figure it out and execute.

However to get to the question, an exhaust is without a doubt a must. Many options there depending on your tastes. Let it be heard.

Some had suggested a PP2. No doubt a crazy good value. I went this route but am upgrading to a better IM, injectors and PBD tune(s). Dont forget the supporting mods either.

You don't have to do much aesthetically and I've clearly gone off the deep end but still try to look subtle.

Some have mentioned suspension and I agree a lot with this. The stock IRS is ok for the normal Joe/Jane but there is so much potential to unlock. Ultimately the best mod is driver mod (seat time (on track)) to fully understand the dynamics of the vehicle you bought. After driver mod is definitely tires. This is a whole new can of worms though...

The beauty with the S550 is that we have a robust aftermarket network to choose from and with a couple well planned dollars you can paint your canvas any way you like it so get your Bob Ross on.

Good luck OP and keep us posted!:like:

Glad the poll shows we have less ricers here than I thought.

Well, I've tried a couple of different Ford dealers, one isn't sure about the PP2 install (they haven't done one in a long time and aren't sure if they'll do it if I bring in the parts), and the other will install the parts but won't install the tune. I'm going to give one or two more a shot.

Anyone in the KC area know of a dealer or an ASE shop that does tunes?
Check out the Mustang club of greater KC. They could give you more information than you could ever use.

I voted "Cosmetic".

Way I see it, someone who has to ask this question won't be able to fully appreciate performance mods, anyway.

OP here, correct, there will most likely be two rounds of mods. That is assuming the government doesn't take all my money at tax time

I'm planning to reach out to the dealer in Wichita, and one or two here in KC. Also going to check with a local ASE certified shop to see if they can help me out as well.

One issue with appreciating the performance mods, the car must remain wife friendly. Already had one she didn't like, so any mods need to be kept to a reasonable level. Could I go balls to the wall, obviously, as so many here have done, with much success. And I'm glad they're enjoying their ride. I'd love to tale a ride in a whippled one, but that's not the direction I want to go.

I really do appreciate all of the comments in this post. Most have been very helpful. Right now, the foal is to get through the holiday. Parts will be ordered shortly thereafter. And updates will follow. There will be no mysterious little green light in this post

My car is fast enough as a stock DD and I’ve got the tickets to prove it so .... no performance mods for me.

Cosmetically she looks beautiful so non of that.

The only mods I did was Snow tires, jacking rails , clutch spring, exhaust, radar detector and a dash cam.

Santa is delivering a JLT catch can. I told him I don’t need one but he says I like to tinker in the garage so I’m getting one.

Santa’s a cool dude ... \m/ \m/

Performance mods over cosmetics, even when the cosmetics are performance-oriented.

Rather the car have more performance than its appearance promises than the other way around.

Norm, the type of guy to pull up on someone and say his car is factory stock while having a whipple under the hood to hurt some feelings! :)

I think the best way to settle this thread is to ask yourself (and be honest with yourself) do you prefer driving the car or do you prefer showing it off.

I don’t believe there is a wrong answer to that question, as long as it’s an honest one. Don’t let anyone else decide for you because you probably won’t be happy.

If you prefer to drive it, go with the functional/performance modifications.

If you prefer to show it off or just look at it, go with the cosmetic/form modifications.

Either way, make it YOUR car and it’ll keep you happy.

Happy modding and merry Christmas.
