Hood scoops are ok on the 07 SGT but that’s it. Shelby put them there to copy the 66 GT350.The 69 Z/28 had the cowl induction hood which worked and looked good. I hate hood scoops on any newer mustang. The early cobras started the hood scoop thing. Let’s leave it there. I like the hood vents on the 13 boss 302.

Agree with 5.0 435 above about cowl induction hoods, done right they are OK with me. Otherwise vents. Not a fan of the stock vents/heat extractors on my 2017, too plain, replaced them with Roush.

Soo not to say you don't already know this - you very well probably do, but maybe some have not thought of this from the functional perspective vs. aesthetic.

Everyone has their own opinion and you know the old adage...about all having one and stinking and all, and the fact that if you arent driving mach nipple and getting the benefits from either then who cares - do what looks best to you.

Please just make it classy!!! :D

Vents and scoops (if actually functional and not just silly plastic add-ons like the rear window and fender scoops) have very very different purposes as well....

Scoops kill aero if not done right, unless its like a vent in a already open grill or headlight slot - and act to add more air into either cool the engine bay (poorly usually) or force feed air into an intake. Bigger nostrils and added drag - like adding a parachute kind of...

Vents are there to reduce pressure / over pressure and bleed off some heat from under the hood so at speed you don't have a complete parachute as air is picked up from below.

Lol thats what is going to keep our 2016 GT value in the auctions twenty years later!
I seriously have no idea why Ford only put them on the 2016s. I mean, yea, I can only see one of them from the driver's seat but it's still kinda neat. I would love for it to return in the 2019 MY.

Some may think these are a bit much, but if they body-color match... my god, I love them:

Cold air intake functional as long as it’s not snowing heavy. There is a tube in the center that feeds directly into the air filter box. Ford design no aftermarket involved. It also has the plates to cover up the space for snow. Who the hell drives a boss in the snow. Haha.

Hood scoops and giant wings for the win. Here is the custom work that I did back in high-school for a joke. The fast and furious crowd didn't really like it LOL.

Just remember, each of these additions added at least 20 hp, especially the light up jaguar hood ornament.

Scoops serve almost no purpose anymore since the primary reason for them back in the day was to get fresh air into the carb. But since we don't do that anymore...

Vents. Get pressure and heat out of the engine bay. I wish the 350 actually had MORE venting.

In all seriousness though, vents are where it's at for me. The GT350 hood and fender vents are sweet.

Each scoop and vent on a 17 GS has a purpose to limit heat build up in the engine ,trans and rear end. All seven. The two bottom ones in front of the rear tires I’m not counting.

The post was about hood vents vs hood scoops. If we want to talk about auxiliary scoops like on fenders and bumpers, that's a different story. The Vette has a hood vent but no hood scoops.
