I just got a new short throw installed at a Ford dealer here in kansas and went to go pick it up and I can't shift into first or second anymore...
I had the same problem with a short shifter, but only when the transmission got really hot. I put the stock one back in and have had zero issues since then.

I just can't get the thought out of my head that these shifters were made purposefully to be sloppy but I could be uneducated but this was me driving off the lot and the guy even trying to bring it to me after sitting.

I installed a blowfish bracket on my '17 GT and it was exactly what it needed. I was tired of the crunch going into first sometimes, now no more crunch and I get to feel the shake in the shifter like my foxbodys. Plus not more high rpm lockout and I have a driveshaft safety loop. As long as it lasts me for tons of miles without breaking from the abuse I will have no complaints

Update:
Ford dealer is trying to sell me that a lot of people have problems with the steeda install. Not sure on this. Called steeda and they said they haven't ever had an abundance on issues for installs. Turns out Bob allen isn't a dealer on steedas "List". I've only seen 2 posts regarding any issues with an install and only one person said they had a problem with 1st gear while I'm still having issues with 1st and 2nd I think its unrelated to me. The other guy was issues with reverse. I got into reverse fine. Starting to wonder if they broke my transmission on install.

Using a dealer is such a crap shoot unless you know the tech is good AND that he didn't just get served with divorce papers.

He has his guy who works on the Ford GTs looking at it and to me that sounds a lot like I got my best guy looking at it to cover my ass. I drove it in there shifting fine. Any thoughts on if I'm going to get f*?

When you talked to Steeda, did they have any idea why the install might be bad or what's causing it if this happened after the install?

My previous GT (2016) was sold with 47k on it. Never an issue with the transmission... Must be something random.

which has been fitted to BMWs and other manufacturers successfully for decades (and I owned a few), it just doesn't make sense it was crap just on Fords.
sure it can. Ford is allergic to QC and the design (but more importantly tolerances and heat treatment etc.) could well be different in this latest attempt at a cut-rate transmission. Someone changed the shift-fork design and fouled it all up. Why? Didn't the one for the last 2 decades work just fine? It's no small surprise that what used to be forged, machined and assembled in USA is now run out of China and that the results are different.

They were utterly confused. I have a technician calling me today about it and I'm thinking about just forwarding the technician to the dealership. I was thinking about leaving his voicemail on here so yall can listen to it but I'm not sure if that will hurt me in the long run or not. He goes on blaming the shifter for 35 seconds.

If you do get fu-ked it's because you let it happen. First off you paid for a service. There was an expectation that the work would be done correctly and without issue. That didn't seem to happen. Then the dealer blamed Steeda. Well if they knew these installs had issues why did they take the job. But the biggest piece of BS is that they didn't test drive the car to determine if there were any issues. They handed you back a defective car, period. Tell them you took my money now do what it necessary to fix the problem.

The most confusing part is that steeda is working with ford to get these installed at ford dealerships around the states and even sells the shifter. I think hes either trying to buy time or figure out a way to blame me but yeah he handed me the car knowing it wasn't shifting right because like I said before the guy bringing me the car said over the radio he couldn't get it into first. I then saw them take it around back where they did something with it.

This isn't rocket science. It's a mechanical shifter. You shouldn't have to be dealing with this. Nicely get to the top dog at the dealership and tell them to either find a way to get your car fixed or give you your money back. Then take it to a reputable dealer and get it done right.

I got a Steeda Technician calling them here soon. Not sure what to expect but yeah I understand that its not rocket science and if it doesn't go well I think I'm going to have to call corporate. The main red flag is that they tried to give it back to me with issues.

It appears that you really do not know a lot about manufacturing in China. True, just like anywhere else, you will find shoddy workmanship and cheap products. But major manufacturers have been building there for decades with no issues. I worked for a major Japanese electronics company that started building factories in China back in the late 90's. The facilities were first rate and the labor when properly trained were every bit as good as anywhere else in the Far East. And the US for that matter.

So even though everyone likes to bash China these days they aren't responsible for the MT82 issues. Ford is. I bet if our Mustang bodies were assembled in China the panel gaps would be a lot better than what we get out of Flat Rock.
