Goddamn.... I almost feel bad for GM after seeing those numbers. I'll admit that I thought the new camaro looked better in person once I saw one. But that rear end is still horrendous. What a shame, considering that it's a beast performance wise.

If all camaro 6G sales were 6,879 then its pretty dawn good numbers for a refreshed model (appearance). We just don't know how many of 6,879 are 5G camaro in March 2016 sales. I would said the 4cyl 2.0 will replace the 5G camaro that was carried over 2016 sales.

Camaro 6G sales will jump higher for the short term, then it would settles less than 6,500 per month. jmho
Yes, but consider. At this point last year (approx same point in the launch) the Mustang sold >12,600 and had not sold below 8,400 for 5 straight months. The Mustang then sold >13k for April and May. Is the Camaro ready to be pulled form the market? Certainly not. But it is not pulling in the buyers like you would expect, given it's "Car of the Year" accolades and raw performance per dollar.

Whatever I need
I think the Mustang was virtually just as popular last month vs a year ago because there is still a positive buzz about the new Mustang.

I also think GM overreached with the new Camaro. The 5th generation compared well with the G6 Mustang, and would have prolly seen just as many new sales (which is marginal at best) had they assigned the 'Vette LT1 V8 and updated V6 instead of a completely new car derived from a relatively expensive sedan; ATS.

So what I believe we have here is a brand new car, that is arguably less attractive from both an emotional standpoint (styling) and notably more expensive. If I was a bow tie guy I would be looking for a sweet deal on a leftover '15 SS.

Except the ages of buyers of the EB have dropped the average age of ownership for the Mustang. Same will happen with Camaro. Younger guys have grown up with turbos just like older guys have grown up with V8s.
Young people can't afford a typical Camaro, not even the Ecoduke.

Most people love the Mustang, some people like the Camaro.

It's certainly not over but it certainly never really began. The first 6 months is absolutely critical. In my opinion, they only sold 50% of what they internally projected. Not only that, they have sped the model release up by 50%.

Twice as fast and half the interest, recipe for disaster.

It won't last 24 full months without some devine intervention w/ holy fingers.

Some speculation on 5th Gen sales in the Feb/March numbers.

thePill thinks between 10-20% of the 6800 were 2015 Camaro's. April should be the last month where 5th Gen's made a noticeable difference.

I've the last 6 months, less than 20,000 6th Gen's were actually sold. The Mustang sold 22,000 in Feb/March.

The 2015-'16 Mustang is the best selling Pony Car since 2004. This is near catastrophic for the Camaro.

You will probably discover the initial test done in the Media were done with a Ringer too. It's just how they operate. I'm glad customers are done falling for their sh!t.

Detroit News also claims Ford makes nearly $1000 per vehicle sold while GM makes $650.

thePill reported that profit margins per vehicle were around $1000, that has been unchanged for years. GM is down to almost $600.

Toyota is the highest at $2400.

Agree on the Mustang side for sure. I dont even think Ford knew it would be this popular.

I was at Cars and Coffee here in Greensboro last week and a few 16 Camaro's were there. They literally got no attention. None. It was really telling. Myself and a few other S550s were there and I can tell you this...compared to the new Camaro, the S550s are rock stars. It's really that simple. I think I've only seen 1 or 2 on the road since they hit the streets. Guess what, GM? Performance isn't everything...that's what the aftermarket is for, anyway.

I looked at the new camaro before I bought the mustang, didn't care for the styling, interior, or visibility. Drives nice and if I was looking for a track/weekend only car maybe I'd have considered it more, but I don't spend my life on the track. I felt like I could live with mustang day to day but I'd have gotten sick of the camaro.

That seemed to be the case at the Nashville Cars & Coffee today, too. There were a couple of 2016 SS's there, and a few more 5thGens, but they didn't seem to be getting much attention. Even the '15 z/28 that was parked a few spots down from me had very little interest from those gathered.
