Just hit 10k miles. Going to change the Trans fluid. I want to try something different than what came in the car.. Something good in cold weather.
Any suggestions or reviews ? Was leaning towards amsoil ATF. Thanks.

I put Amsoil ATF in mine, it works great. Did the change when I had my MGW shifter installed.

Specifically what Amsoil are you all running? I'm about to change mine at 10k miles after autocross and a track weekend. I see the DCTF fluids referenced a lot as well.

Thanks guys, I knew LV was the factory spec, but some have switched to the older/heavier viscosity spec. Dexron III versus VI for GM guys or Redline D4 versus D6 or Mercon V versus LV.

While I was at Mustang Week, a few weeks ago, I stopped by the TREMEC tent, and spoke in length with Hanlon Motorsports in St. Peters, PA. They rebuild, sell, and service TREMEC's. They recommended the following:

  • Mobil One DEX ATF
  • AC-Delco or Pennzoil Synchromesh MTF
They did say Amsoil was good, but from all the tear downs, racing, and years of working on these transmissions the ones listed above were the best. I hope this information will help the group. Have a good day everyone.

AC-Delco Synchromesh MTF = BG Syncro Shift II

The question is if this was a generic observation across the whole range of Tremecs or if they did recommend those for TR-3160 in particular.
There are a lot of Tremecs out there, but TR-3160 was (as far as I know) the first which was specced by Ford with an ATF LV oil.

Good question, and something I missed. Yes, I specifically asked about the 3160. Thanks @murick
