Don't over think this. If you want the Mach 1 and can afford it; even if barely, go for it.
Buy once cry once. It'll be worth it.

I’ve been looking at a 23 Mach1 at our local Ford dealer. I will be turning 64 soon and I am going to get a Mustang to enjoy during retirement. We have had Mustangs in the past. They were 09’s. My question after doing research on the Mach 1 is if this is too much car for a guy that probably will never even do a burnout let alone ever get it on a track? I’m thinking just a GT would be plenty. But this particular car is really in good shape.
Am I overthinking this? Any opinions are appreciated.
The Mach 1 will hold its value much better.

Why overlook the obvious?
Take it out for a lengthy test drive and
see if this car is for you. 🍻

You'd enjoy both. The M1 isn't too much car, so get the one that is calling you.

Hi - I bought a new 2019 Bullitt at age 77 and like you, I just drive it as a pleasure vehicle. It’s my daily driver from April thru October which is pretty much the non-salt season in western NY. You want to get whatever model catches your eye (including color) and the features that will make you enjoy it. I liked the color, the manual transmission the comfortable seats with memory, magnetic suspension, variable exhaust and sleeper look(no spoiler, no callout numbers on the front fenders, no pony on the grill, etc.). If that requires a few more bucks because you have to get a new one, you won’t regret it. You want to go out to the garage and like what you see and when you drive it, you want the features that make the driving experience pure joy. At our point in life, minimize your compromises and regrets… Bruce

I would say it’s not about power. It’s more about daily driving and comfort. The Mach 1 is more rare and also has the numbered chassis plaque on the dash which is nice and makes it feel more special. I would go non-HP and ensure magneride so you can adjust your ride to your liking. I have an HP Mach 1 - love the car, but I definately have a few things I dislike. I am boring and just really use it as a boulevard cruiser, but just loved the look of the HP version. I hate the 10 speed as I find it shifts poorly and harsh, and on downshifts in every mode it is just lazy to downshift and you get no aggressive engine breaking. It’s hopefully something a tune can fix. You will prob get better price on Mach 1 vs new GT. Price has increased pricing quite a bit. Either - Mustang is a win!

I ve learned the fastest car isn t always the most fun to drive.
Agreed. My current S550 is a rocket ship however I have a Dark Horse Premium (6 speed) on order. Should be built next week. Assuming the stars align.

Then I will sell the 2021 GT Premium to a, hopefully, good home and enjoy a different kind of driving experience.
