So yeah, I'm joining the "It's too damn loud with longtubes club, However, my situation may be unique in that I still have the OEM resonator and active exhaust MACH1 mufflers in place. I installed Stainless Power 1-7/8 headers with their high flow cats to support the ESS blower. Under normal driving conditions the exhaust sounds great, not too loud, etc. but when I open er' up, it is just too loud for me and my wife. I guess I'm getting old, but in sport or track, even with the factory cat back, this thing makes WOT pulls painful. Also, this car generates enough attention, I don't need cops from 3 miles away to hear me when im romping on it.

Wondering if anyone else has done this, and if so, what sort of solutions you came up with. I've considered the Vibrant (or similar) bottle resonators right behind the mufflers but I don't know if this would really make enough of a difference, and have also considered the Magnaflow Tru-X resonator installed after the OEM resonator, but don't like that it is 409 stainless, and not sure it would really fit in that location anyway.

Basically im looking for more of an OEM sound, but still trying to maintain adequate flow for 700WHP+. (asking a lot, I know). The other reason I installed the headers is so that I can easily inspect, and change out the cats when necessary. (Not possible with OEM manifolds)

Any suggestions or examples are appreciated

@Proshop Yeah, I'm a sissy when it comes to overly loud exhaust. I have no idea how people with resonator deletes, long tubes, and blowers even drive their cars.

My wife has finally figured out it’s not the hp or speed or being thrown back in the seat that’s scares her when she rides with me… it’s the exhaust that scares the $hit out of her. She does love the way the car sounds normally but not WOT. So it get it totally!

Yessir. I romped on it under an overpass this weekend, and my wife was like "WTF dude, is that really necessary"? I said, Not necessary, but potentially unavoidable".

I want all the flow, but about 1/2 the sound. Lol

I did the same but on my 22GT. Offroad LTHs with no cats though, but stock resonator and active exhaust. My car now lives in "quiet" mode. In normal its...ok.. In sport or track its just too loud for the street. Im not a ricer type kid reving at every 350z I see, so the extra attention I get from the LTHs is unwanted. I did them simply in prep for boost so I dont break a ringland on a piston from clogged or damaged stock cats.

But day to day, I feel less likely to rip on it and enjoy the car now being its so LOOK AT ME LOUD. One pull and Im ducking down side streets thinking a cop is coming from hearing my nascar loud exhaust.

So my car now lives in quiet mode. Quiet mode always on 24/7 for start ups as well. Cold starts are like track mode was stock, but with quiet mode enabled. And in actual track mode now on cold starts, it rattles the house and the neighbors around as well.

I would consider adding another resonator in line before the mufflers to take some of the rasp off the top, but I dont want to ruin the free flowing nature of what I got. At a loss here as well.

Doesn't the valve open when in Quiet mode, when you go above like 50% throttle?

I want to be able to run it in sport or track, without my ears bleeding or people flipping me off. I feel your pain man, Im past the "wake the dead exhaust" days of my life. Wondering if anyone has added resonators before the mufflers, and if so, did it make enough of a difference?

I have had my own battles with my exhaust sounds unfortunately and that’s why my shop won’t touch my exhaust anymore 🤣! When I had the Roush SCer on I had just an X pipe and it sounded good, wanted LTH’s and no cats and it was too loud and then installed a magnaflow resonator and it was to quite. Switched to ESS wanted all the flow I could get so put on a borla atak, knew it was gonna be loud so added a 3” straight through stainless bros muffler in place of where the resonator goes. It did a decent job of bringing the sound down but I blew the welds on it twice and pulled it out. So now I just live with it being loud and use the active exhaust when needed. #racecarproblems

No it doesnt as far as I can tell. But with the camaro I had with the NPP valved exhaust, it too had a stealth mode that held the valves closed. And chevy warns against WOT pulls and racing with it in stealth. Thats got me spooked with the quiet mode. Am I damaging the active mufflers if I do WOT pulls in quiet mode? I DD in quiet but rarely go WOT but I have. And I dont hear them open and it doesnt get louder. Just really tinney sounding.

Fun fact I was out all day today with the wife in my car. And had it in quiet all day with her. About an hour into the drive, she commented on how its not nearly as loud as I make it out to be... I was like BRUH, let me show you something. Put it in track and did a WOT pull and he almost pissed on my leather seats...lOL

So an X-Pipe with the Tru-x resonator/xpipe thing is quieter than the factory resonator?

😆 Exactly. The difference between quiet and even sport is fuggin ridiculous. OEM MACH1 sounds amazing. Im trying to get back to as close to that as possible, but with all the flow and ease of changing cats on the longtubes
