I think if I were to run on the track, I would run open back as recommended. There's a reason they came up with that spec, maybe the competitor who said "Hey, some butthole lost his wheel" just before hooking into the infield.

I'm surprise more people don't use a motorsport-derived open back, single piece lug nut. I run a squared 305 setup on my S550, so I needed extended lug nuts and a small 5mm spacer. Open backs won't swell and work on every lug nut combo. You just need a deep socket on hand.
Which ones are you using? I need to do the same thing!

I bought those with my hubs from them.. I just was looking for some more decorative OEM look for when I have my regular tires and rims on the vehicle. I was hoping Gorilla or someone else would be a solution.
Understand if you are going for a "look." I personally don't care, I just need them to hold. With my combo of extended lugs and these open lug nuts, I have good results from using impacts or just simply running the recommended TQ settings vice the 150 requirement from Ford's products.

I'm sure the Gorilla's are a fine product. I just desire dependability.

It’s just for when I have stock rims/tires on and I’m not at the track. I see open end ones longer ones. I’ll look into it.

I don't understand that statement. Are you somehow trying to imply that Gorilla Luke nuts are not reliable? Mine have been far more dependable and reliable than the junk Ford installed.

As for open ended lugs I'm sure they are more versatile for track use. The thing is probably 98% of Mustangs never see a track parking lot much less make it onto one. And that 98% is far more concerned not seeing a bare lug/stud than worried about constantly changing wheels.

I don't particularly love the black Gorilla lugs, after taking them on/off a few times the edges get messed up.

And the black paint fades faster than the paint on my wheels, so they look slightly off if you look close. When they were new they looked great. So I can see the value on some shiny lugs.

I have my OEM lugs still and they are in perfect shape, being used half the year with my winter set in bad weather. I only remove by hand/do not use power tools when I change my wheels.

I'm not launching hate at any product. I just put out my experience, so, I know the motorsport ones are reliable, easy to use, and are easily replaceable in small quantities. Saying one product is reliable doesn't mean everything else isn't.

Form doesn't matter to me at all, function is what I care about. That's why I referenced my preference to a motorsport hub, motorsport lugs, motorsport lug nuts, and (not referenced, but relevant) the forged wheels I have are purely for a strength vs. weight.

Maybe it's just me, but I've never looked at a car and said wow...those lug nuts really ruin the look of the car. On the side of most Mustangs not seeing a track...I agree and also think more people should take their car occasionally to an event to see what the car and driver can actually do. But that is a soap box I avoid.

I have been thinking about changin my OEM lug nuts out. NOt that they are wearing, but it's the constant stress of reminding service peope that it is a two piece deal and to not use impact tools.
I have to say my local ford dealership has been great.
I took my Bronco in for it's first oil change and tire rotation. I forgot to say something about the lug nuts and the service adviser reassured me that they are very familiar with the Ford OEM product and how they can be damaged.

Why buy aftermarket? Just chisel off the plating on the oem lug nuts. Simple

Because when you do, then a 21mm or a 13/16" is way too big now and the next standard size down 19mm, 3/4" is too small.

I have McGard nuts on all my vehicles. I mostly went with McGard because the factory wheel locks that come with the car are McGard, so getting matching lug nuts is a no brainer.

I have a special 3/8th drive 21mm deep socket I use to run them back on with my 3/8th drive milwaukee impact that I only use at half trigger then I use my 24" MAC torque wrench to tighten them to 150. I take them off with my big 1/2" drive milwaukee impact.
