How many feet of exhaust wrap will I need to wrap the section around my Diff? Assuming 50% overlap?
The distance is about 2 feet, so is 5 feet for each side a reasonable be guess? Looks like there is 15 Ft rolls available.

I should have paused and made a calculation, now that I see it wrapped, its an easy calculation:
Pipe Diameter X3.14 = 8. Each revolution covers 1 inch, (@ 50% overlap) you need to cover about 24 inches. 8" x 24" = 196 inches / 12 = 16 feet
The 15 foot wrap was a little shorter than I intended to cover, but should do the job.

How effective is the wrap at keeping the rear differential cooler than without the wrap? Is this an easy way to help lower rear end temps without adding an external cooler?

Metallic ceramic coating cuts radiated heat by 30% so that could be another option - on its own, or with other steps too.

I can’t answer how much difference it makes in the ‘real world’ but my gut feeling is it helps.

Maybe I’m just going easier on the car, but enthusiastic driving doesn’t move the gauge as quickly as it did - but then the sensor was also replaced with the new cover, so maybe that’s a (small) difference attributable to the new sensor and not the coating … ?

The wrap was effective for my 1st season on the track. I am a old track whore so after I got faster and pushed a lot harder I had to move up to a cooler. I do feel that you should start with the wrap and invest in a leaf blower. When you get back to the pits, just place the leaf blower under the car and point it at the diff. for a few mins and that may be enough til you really start to push the car. It may be enough and you wont have to step up to a cooler.

Its Just a Band-Aid. If you intend to take your S550 to the track, my suggestion is get a diff cooler. For me, I spend so much time and money getting to the track, the LAST thing I want to have to do is Sit out because of a Hot Diff.
