I plan on tackling this in the spring and paralleling it with my trans cooler switch.

Is the pump always on or is it thermostatically controlled?

It's hard to imagine that the diff won't get hot in hard use. At the minimum IMO a temperature sensor should be installed into the rear diff in a tech/base car if you add the transmission cooler. Then you can monitor it and make your own decision.

There are people on this forum who drive their base/tech on the track multiple sessions and didn't get the transmission hot. My car was in limp mode within 10 minutes with 65 degree ambient temperatures. I think it depends on how hard you use the car when you are at the track.
No I don't think it is temp sensitive. It is car to car. Ran last week at a track event in my base. No limp mode but a 17 track pack ran the same event and no limp mode but his diff read 224 on the track. Mine is n/a. Trans on mine with no cooler 263 and his 17 ran 266. Kind of odd? My buddy still thinks the sensors and calibration is off on these cars. Just my input.

Does the 2016+ GT PP come with a diff cooler? If not, anyone have experience tracking one?

Mine is a 2017 PP GT. I have spent some time at road courses. As I got comfy with my car and started to be able drive it quickly around the course, I got the diff warning.

Anyone know what the part number for the temperature probe is? I didn't see that listed in the diagram with the other parts.
The trouble is connecting it. Has anyone figured this out? GT_Dave looked for a connector but did not see one.

Thanks for posting the link Brent:thumbsup:
Seems like Optimum Performance was all over that discussion... Maybe they could weigh in here to provide a summary?

This is why Ford doesn't really care to attempt to offer a diff cooler kit for it. The harness installed in the cars simply doesn't have the wiring for the pump and sensor (and who knows what else). That'd be a lot of wasted copper if they added wires for every option that's not there and they penny pinch on construction costs as much as possible.

So the OEM challenge includes figuring out a way to wire a sensor & switch, mount hardware...and get it to communicate with the CANS...

They are reporting overheating of the rear diff.

Actually they are reporting overheating on the track also Oil and Coolant.

I did not have any issues with oil or coolant, but I have a base model car.

BLUF: You should be able to mitigate most of the risk with changing to a thicker fluid.

We(GT PP owners) think the overheating of the diff is isolated to the 3.73 diff's(torsen) only. The other interesting thing is no one with a 15 GT performance package(temp sensor not present until 16 pp) seems to have reported a diff failure. However, 16+ performance package cars are able to monitor diff temp through the ngauge or forscan lite and, on track, temps are getting close to 300F in some situations. We have seen a drop in temp rise with the 75w110 and 75w140 fluid. I'd type more, but i have a broken wrist and am a 1 finger bandit right now.

That would make sense i have a 3.73 differential. I am also sure traction control plays a big part, in heating up the diff, if you drive with a touch of throttle on over steer quite a bit. Some habits are hard to break.
