Check this out. The things he's talking about, we wouldn't directly use, but the underbody views are gold. It really goes to show how venting the wheel well is a problem. Ideally, there would be minimal fender behind the actual tire, but since we all have a fender, then it needs to be vented after the tire and before the door to allow better flow under the nose and fill in the bubble after the front tire.

Don't you have this Nightmare? https://racelouvers.com/mustang-15-23-rear-lower-fender-louver-pair-fl-fender-trim/ I think your car is in the examples. If so, what did you notice when you put them on? I see the fender liner is completely out, but an option is to cut a bunch of big holes with a hole saw in the liner and then put stainless mesh over the holes. You'll get probably 50% of the airflow, but that's a hell of a gain over zero.

No not me (yet)). Venting the fender/wheel well is on the list.

Friend-competitor from Houston region has the anove the wheel vents and no liners.

First things first, get the car running again, lol.

Was this why the 650 has a fist sized hole behibd the wheel that gobbles up cupfuls of gravel and dirt? To the point it's so bad people sell blocking plates?

AJ tested that the air curtains actually cost them front downforce numbers in the wind tunnel.

I have additional fender vents on their way for the GT350 fenders in addition to the functional factory fender vents.

So are those air curtains with factory 19" wheels blocked off ?
With my 18" wheels they are open on my '17 GT.

Take a look at the fender vents Phoenix CF makes. They are massive.

It's on my list to do something similar to them. Then cut holes in the liner and put mesh in. Another guy here in Houston did it on his 911, slightly different location, but said the grip is noticeably better.

It's probably the first spot a guy should look to gain DF up front, before the hood vents.

I think something like this would help quite a bit. It really wouldn't hurt drag, because with the big wheels/tires on the car the tire is out in this area anyway. Make it out of carbon and have it pick up with fender well tabs to mount (3mm FHCS with countersunk washers and captive nuts, not the plastic push-pins).

Not sure if its your wording but we gained some Df when we blocked them. Just wanted to clarify. We did pick up a tiny bit of drag too.

I've tested this in the wind tunnel on several cars and several sizes now. They are not very efficient and always increase drag, BUT do create a good downforce gain.

I'm so ghetto, I would have shoved a chunk of high-density foam (the kind they line server hardware shipping boxes with, or weather stripping) into that hole and called it good. :)

So AJ, what's the deal with the hole behind the wheel on the S650 and can it be used for something other than a bucket into which to collect cups of gravel? I figured it was supposed to let air out of the well and blend it back into the door skin. But I haven't checked to see if there was an actual exit or vanes.

How about flow numbers through side rads and/or brake cooling? It seems like these arch lips should be able to have a reasonably good influence on the under-nose flow. I still go back to venting aft of the wheel-well. If you were starting from scratch, you'd have massive venting or no bodywork at all. The Mustang GT3 car is a prime example of the first idea and the BMW GT3 car is one of the other. Posting the pictures was a pain, so I gave up, lol.

Also, drag be damned, just give me downforce! (with the noted exception of Daytona)
