I think it holds the brakes for 2 seconds so even if you were to hammer the throttle, it wouldn't let you go

Nah, it releases as soon as you release the clutch and apply throttle.

I didn't like it at first either, intended to disable it, never got around to it, now I love and plan to leave it on. Just takes a little getting used to.

Yes, feels weird because it is timed. I didn't like it and turned it off.

This is not true for my car at least. It is a timed hold and holds even though you are trying to go and then all of a sudden releases.

My car will hold for 2 seconds, but if I start to release the clutch and apply throttle before that, it will release.

I hated it. The only time I stalled the car was due to hill assist. I shut it off after a couple weeks of ownership.

Felt odd at first but now that I've had the car for about 2 months I like it. Takes some getting used to.

As soon as I start to let off clutch and give it a bit of gas, the hill assist lets go. It's never the full 2 seconds (though if I hold the clutch in, and just release the brakes, it will hold it for 2 seconds then release the break regardless of what I'm doing with the clutch). It only comes on about once a week if I'm first at a stop light near my job, but I've tested it in my driveway when I was getting used to driving manual.

Hated it! Turned it off after the first drive.
Ditto. The weird brake hold plus the thunk in the rear-end when you take off anytime was enough for me to turn it off. Seems much smoother now. I hate the nanny features that do more than you want and change the normalcy of the car.
