Another NT555 crash.

Dunno man, seems those are trash tires.
Any street tire on a dragstrip is trash and potentially dangerous.

Nitto makes several tires with a 555 designation. 555R, 555R2, 555G2, off the top of my head.
Just the 555Rll and 555G2. Both are just newer generations of the previous 555R and 555. :).

I wish BFGoodrich still made the T/A Drag. It was my fav street drag tire. It was amazing on the strip. I saw guys drive to the track and run 9.5+ at 150-160 on them back in the early 2000’s. Hell I had 9.8 -10.2’s on them 😭

Plenty of Drag radial tires that perform exactly like they did, and most are even better now…

I drive 70 miles to and from the drag strip on these, that are far better than the old T/A Drag.

Good sidewall wrinkle. That’s what was so nice with the old drag T/A’s

You should see a Street R Drag radial wrinkle. Thin 2 ply sidewall…….

If I understand correctly your question was 'should I keep racing', correct? Obviously a personal decision, but you are soliciting input. Time is going to help you with that decision and it sounds like you are similar to me in that you are harder on yourself than anyone else could be. So let that juice of self loathing for the F up go away and then ponder the question. $10K is a lot of cheese. While you kept it out of the other lane, it's always a possibility someone could hit you. That is part of the price for admission when you go to race. So you will be asking yourself, how much fun is it? Ya gotta stack the answer to that question against the risk to your fine equipment and your wallet. I ride motorcylces and I get fairly sporty in the canyons around here. I get a rush that I don't get anywhere else. I'm feeling more mortal as I age and the risk/reward equation is getting closer to balanced as it is bodily injury more than money. More often I ride more casually. While that decreases the risk, it also decreases the juice, so the margin between the two is similar. Apologies for the long diatribe, but with some time I think the answer will become more clear to you. How much you miss it once you pass miserable experience you just had. Best of luck.

Nitto NT555 G2 with 14k miles on them and abused. Didn't do a long burnout either.
I hate those tires...there is a whole thread on them. The G2 is the best of their street tires, the RI or RII are their track tires.

I won't go into that anymore...the car is really not that bad. You may not even need a new quarter panel. I am going to say 7500-10k depending on the work needed on that quarter panel.

I'm taking it in tomorrow. The quarter panel has one dent in it once I buffed everything out. It'll need repainted on the end by the taillight, the bumper will probably need a full replacement, and I think the trunk will need to be realigned (if possible).

I may replace the taillights with Striker lights and swap the bumper for a GT500 one if the quarter panel is salvageable to make this whole thing worth it :/

I didn't realize Nitto had this reputation. In fact, I thought it was the opposite as it pertains to track use (I understand that's not what I was partaking in).

Just wanted to have some fun. The video shows that I almost completely recovered the slide. Honestly may have only needed 2' to be in the clear....
