Pushing Engine On/Off While Moving

I hit the start button once while doing about 30 mph; engine shut off and all power remained on.
Pushed the clutch down while rolling, hit the button and it started right back up.

I think I was going for the hazard lights and oops, hit the start button.

How obscenely weird that that you can do it in newer cars. Doesn't seem like the sort of failsafe people would want to be skipped over.

I was going by what the manual shows for remote start. I just tried it and you are correct. My dash said hit start button to drive.

I apologize for getting so heated. I really blew my top there. Pressing the brake pedal just makes me explode, it's something I'm working through with my therapist. It takes time.

No I didn't hit the brakes. I don't have to hit the brakes if I remote start it either.

Having had a gas pedal stick down one time, I would argue that my ability to switch the engine off (turning the key) while leaving the transmission in gear (automatic) and rolling to the side of the road was a notable benefit.

The alternative of shifting to neutral with the pedal stuck down was not appealing.

I had the same thing happen in a Monte Carlo with a 350 V8 while accelerating . Putting it in neutral might have blown the motor.

What about the fob? Let's say it's in your pocket and you accidentally hit a button like door unlock or trunk or something. Does it respond while you're moving?

Just to update. I pushed my ignition button twice by accident and now I’m in for a new starter motor…

question is can you bump start the car?

I've bump started my manual. As long as the ignition is on, the engine will fire back up if you get it spinning.

So, a guy was thinking...

What happens if you're driving alone at a nice pace and you press the Engine on/off button? Likewise, what if you hit a door lock/unlock button on the fob in your pocket?

Would it register that you're moving and ignore the commands or shut the engine off like you turned the key? Or could the doors lock and unlock randomly?
