pp1 gives you bigger staggered tires, Torsen diff, brembo brakes, k brace, strut tower brace, stiffer suspension tuning, less aggressive abs and traction control, additional cooling, some cosmetic changes in interior and the middle gauges. Magnaride is also an option but pp1 cars with magnaride are extremely difficult to find which is unfortunate because in my opinion the pp1 + magna is the sweet spot. The pp1 without magnaride drives / rides like crap in my opinion.

Pp2 gives you the above plus monster 305 tires all around, magnaride suspension, even less agressive abs and traction control, stiffer springs and bigger arbs. Pp2 is only available with 6mt.

The funny part is the biggest cost you are paying for in the pp1 is the wheels and tires and what's the first thing most change? My friend and I both have identical 2019 gts except his has pp1 and mine does not. We drive each others cars all the time you know what difference 5k makes..... next to none. Save the money and buy your own mods. The biggest costs in the pp1 is all the same stuff most people end up changing anyway so that 5k just sits in your garage. And the increased radiator... we watch our temps all the time and seriously there is next to no change in temps between his and mine. He has said numerous times he wishes he had not wasted the money on the performance pack and instead had put the 5k into mods of his choice. Not saying anyone is right or wrong mine is just another opinion based on my personal experiences for you to consider.
And the Brembos and Torsen, but those depend on more what you're going for. It's performance for a road course or HPDE, not drag strip. Regardless, that 5k difference could go a long way in custom modding.

From previous investigation. I wanted to be sure to understand what I needed to complete the strut and handling upgrade. So all you need after a PP1 is the X springs for the rear and we're good.

List:

GT Performance Package:

  • 19" X 9" (F) 19" X 9.5" (R) Ebony Black-painted Aluminum
  • 255/40R19 (F) 275/40R19 (R) Summer Only Tires
  • Brembo Six-Piston Front Brake Calipers with Larger Rotors
  • "Engine Spun" Aluminum Instrument Panel
  • Gauge Pack (Oil Pressure and Vacuum)
  • Heavy-duty Front Springs
  • K-Brace
  • Larger Radiator
  • Performance Rear Wing (Fastback Only)
  • Silver Painted Strut-Tower Brace
  • Spoiler Delete (Convertible Only)
  • TORSEN Differential with 3.73 Axle Ratio (Manual)
  • TORSEN Differential with 3.55 Axle Ratio (Automatic)
  • Unique Chassis Tuning
  • Unique EPAS, ABS and Stability Control Tuning
  • Upsized Rear Sway Bar

That's interesting. I take it your buds car isn't equipped with magnaride? I noticed a huge difference between non PP equipped Mustangs vs. the car I eventually bought, a magnaride PP1. I test drove several base GTs and when pushed around corners, didn't have the connected feeling a PP1 magnaride car does. Definitely not a waste of money IMHO. But to each his own.

MagneRide may keep the car more planted but there's still more body roll than I had hoped for. The $4K I paid for PP1 (for MY2019) is sort of worth it to me for enabling me to get the adaptive suspension, but had I not opted for the latter I wouldn't be feeling too good for what I got for $4K. I was hoping for a much stiffer ride, like my 2001 GT. And I could at least rotate the tires front to back on that one.

Thank you to everyone that replied. My girlfriend likes my mustang (301A) so much she is buying one now. The car she is getting is a 2019 401A Race Red but with different stripes than mine. I guess it has all the bells and whistles on it and she asked me what the GT performance package was. Now I can tell her lol.

Ford has raised the price of the performance pack option to $5200 in 2020. In 2018 it was only $4000. Nobody pays (with a brain) retail for new cars so your not paying the full pop for the option from the get go. Mine was over 7k off sticker. I bought the pp1 because I actually like the wheels and tires and the appearance adds on’s. I do not regret buying the pp1 and would never own another S550 without it. JMO...

this is what IM saying for what you pay ford for what you get, you can do way more in custom. The brembos ...eh... we have had the brakes and rotors off both cars and there isnt that much difference and when driving his are actually touchier (the brembos). as for stopping power again eh worth 5k??? not really. The brakes on non and pp1 are not really that big of a difference the oem are rather beefy. I cant speak to the torsen all i can say is does it make a driving difference... again like i said we drive each others all the time... I would be hard pressed to be able to point point a difference... the torsen and brembos in my opinion are more name drops for cash then anything. again all personal opinion im not here to tell anyone they are right or wrong cause no one is :) if your happy with what ya got great. IM just giving a counter point from 2 people who are less than impressed with the cost compared to what you get :)
Dude, your not getting that your not paying full price on the options when you buy with discounts/negotiate the buy $$$. Do you pay full retail for cars Einstein...?

If your wanting more of a straight line setup get the non-pp car. Pretty simple. I like handling/braking setups more myself. Next...

If she's going to buy, mostly leave it stock, and wants a much sportier car, get the PP1, and if she can swing it, get Magneride on top of the PP1, it's pretty fantastic, seriously, having owned it now for several months, well worth it, no question.

Some people want to buy a car and go drive it, and have the best possible experience, that doesn't require tapping into the aftermarket. That's a PP1 / PP2 car (in the GT lineup).

A GT PP1 + MagRide + A10 (automatic) is fantastically fun, it's very quick, easy to drive fast or slow, cruises nicely, has excellent road manners and handling predictability, deals with poor road conditions much better than a "fixed" suspension.

For a daily driver (which is how most people use their Mustangs - even with crap ton of so called go faster mods) - yes, little difference. For use for anything beyond that (track, autocross, whatever) - there absolutely is a difference (my previous car was '15 non-PP).
