Hey guys so Ive had my 18 GT now for 2 months and have about 2400 miles on it so far, I'm leaving on a trip that's about 800 miles total should I change the oil now or wait till I get back? How many miles do you guys put on it before the first change?

6 months or 5k. Im at 2200 right now, I MIGHT go a little earlier like 4500-ish but it's not needed. Full synthetic Mobil One all the way

I did mine about where you are. It's probably not necessary but I just wanted better quality full synthetic oil and synthetic media filter. I figured now was better than later if I was going to run that stuff. :)

It wouldn't surprise me if someone suggests changing your oil now, again when you arrive at your destination, then once more when you return.

....then park it in your garage now in preparation for winter 6-months away.

I see many doing Wix, M1, the Ford Racing or the Motorcraft.

I was torn (and worrying too much about something that doesn't really matter) between M1 and the the 2 Wix versions.

I changed mine the first time at 1,000 miles. It's definitely not necessary, though. Depends on how long you plan to keep the car and what is important to you. I run the factory recommended oil and filter and change somewhat more frequently than recommended. I don't think filters remove all the abrasive debris or contaminants and I think debris/contaminants are worse for the engine than running the factory oil vs. another brand.

You don't have to change it now, but it wouldn't hurt. Oil changes are cheap when you do the labor yourself.

In regards to an oil filter, I've been using the OEM one for my 2015 GT (Motorcraft FL500S).

I always make the first change at 1000 miles and always pre fill the oil filter before installing it. Using Motorcraft 5W-20 and a Motorcraft FL500S filter. My 2012 GT motor has no ticks or other funny noises and runs incredibly smooth and quiet. So I plan on following this same procedure when I get my 2019 GT.

If you’re not as OCD as me, it’s not going to matter if you change it when you get back. Just be sure to check the oil level before you leave.

I have an oil analysis from every oil change on my '15 GT listed on my car's journal thread. It details what the engine metal concentrations are after every change, starting from 7500 (first one) to 47,500 (most recent one). This is for a daily driver with a 45/55 around town/highway split of driving.

Let me know if you have questions.

Thanks for that it was very interesting to see the changes  About how long does it take for the results to come in and about how much does it cost? I might have mine tested as well
