Here is my oil analysis report on my 15 GT at my first oil change

This should "clean up" on my second oil change which I will do at 8,200 miles or 1 year.

I replaced factory fill oil with Mobil 1 full synthetic 5w-20.
Looks like they used some kind of "break-in" oil as well hence the moly content. Moly is used for new engines to reduce hotspots in the metal during break-in process.

And they could have any number of organic esters for wear protection which won't show up on a uoa. Extra wear protection and moly = all the more reason to keep that factory fill in there.

The factor fill is just plain old Motorcraft Synthetic Blend 5w-20.

Well yes and no. Moly after break in period can act like abrasive agent accelerating engine wear.
But without doing an analysis on a virgin Motorcraft Synthetic Blend 5w-20 oil, we don't know if it's in the oil or simply in the assembling grease which they use a lot in all moving parts to avoid scoring when first time starting the engine at the factory.

There are many service fill oils, intended for oem's extended drain intervals, that have moly in them. Some do, some don't. http://www.pqiamerica.com/Feb2014/consolidated5w20ALL.html. Strictly speaking, moly is a friction modifier, designed to increase the lubricity of the oil, but most people treat it as a anti-wear agent, too.

I don't know if any of us can say with any certainty that the factory fill is this or that oil. I agree that it is probably the MC syn blend (and I can't recall seeing a voa of that oil so I don't know if it has moly in it or not, although the PQIA seems to indicate it does).

You'll get 1,000 different opinions on both those questions.

Here is your first opinion: AMSOIL SS 5w-20 or 5w-30 and their EO filter DIY or taken to a trusted dealer/mechanic.
This.

I did my first change at 1,500 and the next at 10,000 (at least 2/3 of those 8,500 miles were highway though, so I'd have changed sooner if I was driving my current cycle of about 50/50, 60/40 city/highway). The Blackstone analysis of my 10,000 mile oil was incredibly good, almost no metals or undesireables at all and very good TBN (4.7). I use Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W-20. I just did my most recent change at 19,500 and have sent a sample of that in for analysis as well, since my drive cycle changed significantly after 15,000.
Got my most recent analysis on Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W-20 that had 9,500 miles on it. All good things.

That's an outstanding uoa. With these kinds of results, i can't understand why some folks are so afraid of 5w20. It would appear Ford knows what they're doing.

Agreed. It matters which 5W-20, certainly, but don't be scared off by it. The engine is designed around it. I might go up to 5W-30 for tracking it, but that's it. I do not baby the engine at all once it's up to temp. I let it build up some heat before taking off, about 20-30 seconds of idling in this colder weather, and nothing over 3000 rpm (I try for under 2500) till CHT is over 180 F.

I did my first oil change at 1,000 miles, used Motorcraft 5w20 & FL500 oil filter, I just did the second oil change today at 5,000 miles and I switched to Royal Purple 5w20 full synthetic. I will probably change it every 5,000 miles from here on out.

Do a UOA, save yourself some money (probably). It's $20 and they can tell you how your engine and oil are doing. See above ^^. For good synthetic, extending your interval to 8-10k miles vs 5k miles would save a good chunk of change after a few years, considering it takes 8 quarts.

Tell me about it! The local parts store lets me have the Royal Purple at good price $7.25 a quart, but at 8 quarts thats still $58 plus the oil filter.

Depending how much you drive I would just change it once a year.

Yep. The pennzoil ultra platinum is very pricey as well at $40 for 5 qts. The fact that I can go to 10,000+ miles takes the edge off of that price. It's amazing oil, though.

Thats what it will end up being, about 5000-6000 miles per year.
