I have 22,000 pampered klms on my 2019 Bullitt, but while not as many as you, I have enjoyed every one of my 22K. Incidentally, managed to get 8.8 litres per 100klm on trip of 680 klms cruising at 110 klms/per hour just recently.

It is an internal safety boot release (trunk as called in the USA). To be sure, as the Irish say, close the boot, open one of the back seats and tug on the latch and observe what happens. You can also have the trunk open and tug on the latch and again observe what happens.
