Is there a way to modify the steering wheel/column to extend the telescoping mechanism 1-3” further towards the driver? I feel like I can’t get the steering wheel quite as far back as I would like.

I don't think this is possible. Steering columns are designed to collapse during an impact. Modifying it could potentially prevent it from collapsing and result in serious injury or even death. Have you tried the obvious and moved the seat forward?

Just tilt your seat forward a tiny amount, that will get you and inch and a half easy.

Answering this dead thread because it comes up in google searches and the only responses were dummies that didn't actually answer your question.

Yes, there's a well-made steering wheel extension spacer you can buy specific for the S550 mustang from here -

https://spacershop.com/product/ford...bTcTAKqcM86VhDebiFrHEFegjTuaw9zQM-4t8V3Vjsmt2

Gives you 2" of additional extension on the steering column. Reputable company that does a ton of these across the globe.

+1 for the spacer shop. 2" doesnt sound like a lot but it made a massive difference.
