Is there a way to modify the steering wheel/column to extend the telescoping mechanism 1-3” further towards the driver? I feel like I can’t get the steering wheel quite as far back as I would like.

I don't think this is possible. Steering columns are designed to collapse during an impact. Modifying it could potentially prevent it from collapsing and result in serious injury or even death. Have you tried the obvious and moved the seat forward?

Just tilt your seat forward a tiny amount, that will get you and inch and a half easy.

Answering this dead thread because it comes up in google searches and the only responses were dummies that didn't actually answer your question.

Yes, there's a well-made steering wheel extension spacer you can buy specific for the S550 mustang from here -

https://spacershop.com/product/ford...bTcTAKqcM86VhDebiFrHEFegjTuaw9zQM-4t8V3Vjsmt2

Gives you 2" of additional extension on the steering column. Reputable company that does a ton of these across the globe.

Did you order one? How much did it cost you, including shipping and import duty?

I'm on the tall side but mainly in the legs. It made a big difference for me as I have to have the seat all the way back and reaching for the wheel I had very little elbow bend. Adding the spacer brought it to a far better arm position with more leverage and mobility.

I will say after switching to a fixed back seat I do find myself wanting another inch maybe two for a perfect seating and arm position at my preferred heavy rake.

Heads up on the shipping charges, I ordered a spacer in May 2026 and it was just shipped and received in America July 1 with an additional duty charge from DHL for $54 before they would deliver. I've ordered plenty of parts from other countries that typically have an American contact or intermediate stop to avoid additional complications covering of tarriffs and duty charges (it's all baked into the original purchase price.) I told DHL and Spacer Shop $54 was an unreasonable extra fee but neither one would budge on any pricing adjustments. The duty was never discussed when I ordered (lesson learned ) and Spacer Shop had a "too bad for you" attitude and said they would deduct return charges and restocking fees if II didn't follow through with the delivery. We'll see what developes as I keep an eye on my credit card account.

...
EUR 245 = $282 for Spacer + shipping

I asked The Google and it said no import duty on shipment valued under $800. But if they did, it should be 6% max, or $17.
