Hello gang!! Happy holidays!!!
I was wondering if it were safe to run E85 Daily? I haven't done anything to my fuel system only a throttle body. I'm Wengerd tuned for E85. My local Amoco has E85 that tests to E90 regularly. Premium is at $4.05 while E85 is $2.85. I recently realized I didn't drive the car enough. So i made it my daily driver. I couldn't ask for a more fun way to commute. Can it be harmful to use E85 daily, regularly?
I throw in a little MMO with most fill-ups for lubricity because E85 out here is nearly anhydrous

I don't think MMO mixes with alcohol. I know it won't mix with Methanol.

I’ve tested many stations. It’s 98%. Me and about 100 other people have confirmed. You can tell instantly it has a really high ethanol content compared to normal e85. I’ve let it sit 20+min before.

There is another station that sells 90%+ ethanol and they have it labeled as “premium e85”. They also have another regular e85 pump that’s in the 80-85% range.

And no they have a separate pump for the 100 octane fuel. It’s just the same terminal.
While I’m not seeing E content that high, I do have a pump in town at a BP station that states “E85 - 85% ethanol. This is NOT a BP product” and it tests out year round at E85 regardless if I let it sit for 5 min or 5 days in the test tube.

All the other stations here say “51-85% ethanol content” as yours shows. It’s interesting yours tests so high from what seems to be a flex fuel pump.

Testing is a pain haha but here is a screenshot of someone who tested a station today. I have personally tested this station multiple times and they consistently have 95+ E%. Usually it’s 98% and the other 2% is additives so no one drinks it.

is there no water added?

Then it sounds like the tank farm is doing the load out wrong. Or the driver is being "creative" in selecting the sub tank when dispensing into the ground.

The E is blended in for the 87-93 grades at the pump. So it's not inconceivable that there is an almost "pure" ethanol tank to draw from and the pumps are programmed wrong.

Ya water to the water line and then fill it up with the ethanol. There is a little bit of separation at the very top.

As far as I understand the 2% is additive probably to help with stabilization and to prevent consumption (imagine getting pure alcohol for $3.7 a gallon haha)

It’s funny that you guys don’t believe it’s so high in content. Might have to make a video to prove it haha

I can ask the owner of the station as he is very active in the community. But I’m pretty sure he is specifically getting ethanol this high from the supplier. There are other stations in the area that are getting 54% or 83%. But he seems to specifically want the 98%. It’s been consistent for a few years I believe. At least 2 years that I know of.

You're giving out total misinformation. I've been a fuel hauler for 36 years,
still doing this. The actual way 87-91, or 93 in states that offer it, is this:
Loading a compartment with 2000 gallons of E10 87, you program 2000 for
the compartment, the loading rack pumps 200 gallons of ethanol, then 1800
gallons of sub grade (below 87) is pumped in on top of the ethanol.
The higher octane of the ethanol makes the compartment come out to 87.
Same scenario for any other E10 blend.

But you're assuming it's the same in SW as it is east coast. My info was provided by a hauler as well. Granted was some time ago.

No matter I'll walk down the street and ask the manassas tank farm guy what they do for loads to sheetz and Costco and the like.

Thanks for the clarification.

I wasn't trying to give you a hard time. I load all my fuel in Tucson, AZ.
If you find out something different from what I stated, I'd be very interested
to hear that.
The other thing you could do, if you see someone unloading their tank
truck at a station, stop and ask the driver how the ethanol is loaded. He or
she will probably tell you.
What I described, I'd be very surprised, if anywhere else in the country is
different. The tank farm has trucks loading 24 hours a day. They have
to certify all fuels are blended correctly, including the proper amount of
ethanol. Any malfunction at the terminal, the loading process stops.

I dare say, it happens more than you know. I have personally gotten 93 fuel in Arizona (of all places) that showed as E30 more than once on my many trips back and forth to Texas…lemme see if I can find the pic of the Lund reader 🙃
