If the Only proper race gear you are wearing at a track day is the gloves then the fire retardant property is of little benefit to you. If you crash and the car catches fire while you are still strapped in it, then even in full FIA fire retardant race kit from head to toe you have less than 30 secs max to get out with only minor burns, if you are lucky.
And ICU812 while I admire the sentiment please don’t do that in just fire retardant gloves and a jacket, even if you are wearing a full race suit, with balaclava and helmet still on you would need to exercise extreme caution. Fire takes no prisoners.

Yes, I know.
I have driven vehicles that required full on fire retardant gear.
But, in the hobby track setting a set of gloves, jacket, and helmet with nomex sock will allow me to get closer to a fire to help put it out than, if not having them.

Would I scare people if I wore them around while driving on the street? I think it'd be great when entering the car with a passenger, you put on gloves.

LOL. I can imagine people at read lights paying attention, would be great. Go ahead with a helmet if you really want to give people a WTF moment lol.

In all seriousness, I would consider using them all the time. During the summer here, I hate sweaty hands on the steering wheel.

Motorcycle gloves serve a different purpose than what is needed in driving gloves. You don't need the physical protection, just need grip.

By all means, try them and see what you think but I think they will be more of a hindrance than beneficial
I'll get back to you on that.

Aside from the fire protection, I guess their benefit is somewhat subjective. I got a halfway decent set from Alpine Stars which seem like they should work, but those of you who pitch or follow baseball know what sweat and sunscreen are capable of when you throw a little brake dust into the mix, but that's just me. It is fun driving around town with helmet and gloves, especially in my worthless EV, and I'll do that when heading to some go-karts.

Due to sweat, driving gloves are great to relax your grip, I’m using $25 baseball batting gloves and love them. They are dexterous enough to keep on when checking tire pressures and such. At autocross I’m not worried about catching on fire and at track days I’m an ultra casual.

I ALWAYS use them driving my Healeys. I have solid black leather for cold days, and brown caneback--made of some rare type of pigskin--for warm days. They're essential in open-top cars, and especially with slick wooden steering wheels. But I don't use them in other cars because, well, I'd look like a poser (OK for the track, though).

I find at the track they give better grip on the steering wheel, if my hands start to sweat it is not affected as much. The right gloves will have stitching on the outside so as to not rub and distract you on the inside. I wore leather motorcycle gloves for a long time and they didn't cause my hands to cramp and provided lots of grip.

As for daily driving, that was an 80s thing that provided consistent leather on leather and full grip all the time.

Curious how others weigh in.

I got a pair of driving gloves after watching "Drive." I've worn them like twice, but I think they're cool.

That’s cool, I would never have expected to see a Mustang compete in a motokahna. Full marks šŸ˜„šŸ‘šŸ»šŸ
