I usually don’t give gas until my clutch is all the way disengaged (foot not on it) is this wrong or bad?
You probably know this, but the "granny" upshift procedure for a car like this:
- throttle to 0%
- clutch in to 100%
- transmission to next higher gear (you will hear and see RPM drop as the rev matcher does it's thing if it's on)
- wait for engine RPM to come to new RPM (or at least close). If rev matching is on, it will stop and hold at the new RPM
- clutch out (with rev matching you don't need to slip it, but without it you do slip a bit to be 100% smooth)
- throttle back on

The downshift procedure is nearly the same, but there's engine braking to contend with which our cars have a lot of in gears 1-3. If you're downshifting while braking, it looks like this:
- start with throttle at 0%, braking
- clutch in to 100%
- transmission to lower gear (pick wisely not to over-rev)
- clutch out (with rev matching you don't need to slip it, but without it slip the clutch to bring engine RPM up to match your new gear/speed)
- as you release the clutch, reduce your brake position slightly to compensate for the increase engine brake effect of the lower gear

Do you still have the stock clutch assist spring?
Will the spring make driving any less comfortable or will it just make the engagement point easier to find

It's going to be harder to push down (definitely a workout in traffic), but it will make it easier to find the point.

You’ll definitely notice the added weight at first but give it a week and it shouldn’t really bother you anymore.

The Steeda spring increases clutch weight slightly. It is nice for the improved feel but the reality is that with rev matching turned on you should be able to do nearly every shift smoothly without slipping the clutch if you time things right. So during normal driving the only time you really slip the clutch is getting going in first or occasionally if you change your mind about what you're doing and confuse the rev matcher.

In motion has been fine for me as a newer driver to stick, it's still the getting going from a stop I am not 100% smooth or comfortable with.

I do what OP said he does I think and let off the clutch 100% before applying throttle from a dead stop. I know I could get this down a lot better, but have been trying to learn slowly so I don't wear things out faster than normal. Did not have anyone to teach me/show me the basics of stick before I bought mine.

I also vote for the Steeda spring, I did that and found it helped a lot. The extra force isn't that much, you notice it at first but it's soon normal.

I’m confused I thought rev match was only used with down shifting?

Yea I would say I’m in the same boat as you, I do the “granny shift” and my getting going from a stop could be faster

There's two kinds. The rev match on down shift where it auto blips is one, the part where the engine holds the rpm when you up shift (especially after accelerating harder) for a few ticks so you can get a smooth shift is another. Any time you get a smooth shift in a manual you have rev matched, and our 2018+ cars help us with both upshifting and downshifting technically.

You could try without a spring to see if you like the feel first. Without the spring and with steeda isn't too much of a difference in feel in case you wanted to try it out first.

So does that mean with rev match turned on the granny shift technique were you only give gas once the clutch is 100% disengaged be correct since the car does it for you ? Or should I still do it
