waffles. much better than pancakes
Waffles, definitely waffles. But even better is French Toast :D

I think this pancakes, waffles and french toast thing is actually an excellent analogy to your question btw.

From where you sit today, I was thinking "he needs to do a drive to decide". On paper, one can rationalize any of the models. There are pros and cons to each.

For the record, I think the EB is going to feel very similar to my 2010 GT (it has the "old" 315hp, 320ft-lb 3-valve in it). It won't sound the same, of course, but I think it would be good to hear what that is like in person as part of your decision making.

Good luck!
I agree with this completely

In reference to savings, it will take you more than 6000 in mods to equal the GT, especially a lightly bolted on GT. If you do solely engine modifications you might be able to catch or beat the GT but that's a new turbo and tune depending on how expensive kits will be.

And w3rkn has some good points, but the EB will not make 340 tq at 1600 rpms. It's peak tq is too high meaning it's turbo isn't small enough to make that kind of tq down low on only 2.3 liters. Believe it or not his extra 700 cc's and 2 extra cylinders in the motor he's got makes a big difference. I could be wrong in this but we will have to wait and see a dyno to be sure. But I highly doubt it. That kind of tq though will be easy to make between 2-3k rpms, actually way more once you get closer to 3k.

Does the Pope wear a funny hat?

GT W/Performance Package.

OR

GT Premium W/Performance Package.

For the life of me...I could not imagine how or why you would be disappointed with either of those.

On the other hand...anything less than either one of those and there is the potential you could end up dissatisfied. I'm just saying! IMHO

EB won't sound like V8, and can't be made to.
Anyone who doubts this should check out the Car & Driver video on YouTube, with each engine accelerating away from the camera. v8 and V6 both sound great in their own octaves. The EB makes an awful hissing sound, just like my 05 Escape. Whoooosh!

In a Fastback, you can roll up the windows and listen to the piped in soundtrack, which admittedly isn't half-bad. Reminds me of my old GTI. But in a 'vert? You are going to hear the whoooshing, and every time you do you are going to wish you'd bought the GT. No doubt.

why would I want a turbo to sound like anything else? I want to hear the turbo whine. I've had 4 turbos an 2 superchargers. I'd rather have forced air than an under hp, tq v6

As a fellow Illinoian I would add that your insurance shouldnt have any real differnce between the two. To list my last 3 cars from most expensive insurance to least it is: 09 Audi A4, 10 Audi S4, 11 GT500...
My current 10 cts wagon is the same as GT500 as well.

I wouldn't mind turbo whine. I do mind hissing.

In the end the choice between the GT and the EB is a personal choice but for me nothing beats having that big V8. I know no matter where I am driving or how big the mountain is when I need it to go my V8 has the power to go. The EB may have 300+ HP but so does my wife's 2013 V6 and driving it in mountains compared to my 05 GT and the power just isn't there when you want it.

Big? Isn't it 302? Perspective is fun? I feel like Doc Brown from the movie Back to the Future.

Actually the new 5.0 is a Large motor due to the DOHC design. If you compare it to the Camaro 6.2 the 5.0 is huge..so yes it's big... You can't just go based off of Cubic Inches. You have to take engine type into account.

Here is an old 302 on the right vs the newer 4.6 DOHC on the left.

I test drove a '14 V6 when I went in to place my order for the '15.

I wasn't impressed at all with the power. Sure, it was alright, better than my TDI of course, but not at all what I'd want from a Pony Car. It didn't even seem to have as much pep as my wife's Highlander.

Sure, the EB will have more torque, so will likely get some much needed pep off the line, but still, it won't match the V8.

So I drove my wife completely nuts reading about PP the difference between the GT and the Ecoboost, wheels brakes.

Until she just screamed, "Order the da@# car already" so since she gave me the direct instructions to order it so......

Mustang GT Premium, Guard, PP, 50 Year Appearance Package....

Now I'm driving her crazy checking the web site every day to check progress.........

The old "drive the wife to insanity" technique, I'm a master.

I too am vacillating between the EB Premium and GT Premium. I'm not at all interested in the PP as I never track my cars. Before the S550 the most powerful car I've ever owned was a 4 cylinder turbo Genesis coupe. It was a 2.0 liter engine and I found it thrilling to drive, it was 210 HP and torque was 223 lb-ft. I didn't test drive the more powerful V6 variant at the time as the turbo 4 felt great and I didn't want to fall in love with the V6. I should have. I had more than one occasion in the 3 years I owned it where the V6 model passed me by and I experienced Engvy. That's engine envy, just coined that expression I think.

So I'm leaning much more towards the V8. Even though the EB has 310 HP and 320 lb-ft of torque, the V8 is sure to feel far more powerful and sound completely awesome. I don't want to ever have any moments of Engvy again.

You tell me the next time you find a Highlander that runs 14 flats. It might have SEEMED a little peaky or something, but if you were letting it run it would be to the end of the quarter mile and half cooled off before the Highlander got there.

You obviously need to order a GT, and probably a twin turbo kit for that, LOL.

Ehh if it was an Auto V6 with 2:73s then I can understand. I hated mine it felt so weak after the honeymoon phase wore off.
