I’ve already decided to go back tomorrow but wanted some opinions. Got a strut brace put on by a local shop and upon examining closer I was left with these. I hate to do it but I feel like I have to, this car has 6,000 miles on it.

They definitely shouldn’t have caused any scratches anywhere. To some it would be a big deal especially for owners who like to dress up the engine bay and go to car shows. For me personally I wouldn’t really care but I’d probably call and let them know that they need to ensure that it doesn’t continue to happen to their customers vehicles. Maybe you can have them touch it up or something. Good luck sorry that happened!

I wish I could have that mentality, it just bothers me so much 😭 I’m going to ask them to make it right, after all they have a paint department.

No it was a local performance orientated body shop and they told me they could do it. Honestly it sucks because they did a great job with my Shelby wing install and changing my deck lid panel. Just feel like I care too much about the car and plan to keep it too long of a time to not say anything.

Well especially since you’re a return customer I can’t imagine that they’d give you any trouble for the touch up

I actually got it all done at once so I’ve only gone once but, I probably plan not to go back after getting this resolved.

Where in IL are you and what shop did you go to? I would agree with you, I would want those touched up with all the salt they lay down around here.

I’m in Geneva, I went to a body shop in Batavia. I don’t want to name drop quite yet until it’s all solved, worst case you have any good recommendations that could remedy this for me?

Got it. Let me know if you want to name drop, I’m right down the road from you in North Aurora. Would be curious to know who it is.

If it was me, I’d just get one of the Ford paint pens in absolute black and just touch it up (if it’s not required to be show car quality). It’s easy to do and does a pretty decent job. As far as a shop to fix it, probably too small for anyone to have any interest even if you have the whole strut bar resprayed.

Hopefully they make it right then. Ugh. I do actually have Dr. Color Chip in absolute black and my paint color that I’d use worst case. I sent a PM of shop name.

Hopefully they just make it right. I’d also be tempted to ask what in the hell they were doing to ding up that many different spots on the car and the strut bar. Dr. Colorchip works well too, only thing that sucks is that if you’re OCD like me you’ll always see it and know it’s there, even if others can’t see it.

I don’t disagree with you in principle but the reality is that short of stripping down much of the underhood compartment and starting from scratch it’s never going to look or be factory again. It just won’t. And if it did, whatever product they used wouldn’t age like factory stuff.

I sympathize with you. It would make me crazy too. In fact, if it were me I’d probably have it touched up professionally then trade the car. I’m really not kidding; back in the mid-2000s I traded a nearly new truck over a door nick. I realize this isn’t normal behavior but there’s a lot to be said for knowing thyself.
