Has anybody removed a mt-82 without a lift? How difficult it it realistically? I am Definitely comfortable mechanically, I removed the engine/trans from my Audi s6 over the winter and that was just on Jack stands in the garage. (2 more cylinders than my 17 gt) So I would imagine it is doable. I could also use a quick jack doing this. Really just comes down to me not wanting to pay the money to have a shop put the clutch it.

Just a guess.. but knowing AUDI's... the trans in your Mustang should be a breeze.

That was kinda my though process, figuring that it would be simpler than this nightmare was

You got this! I want to say you’ll need to get the car about 23” off the ground. That should be enough to get the tranny out.

Sweet. Appreciate the info. I really just need to put a new clutch in so worst case scenario, it can stay under the car if I don't have enough. But I don't think it'll be a problem.

Usually taken apart.
I did my clutch on jack stands in my garage. 23" is about right. I got the Harbor Freight tranny jack and that made it easier to control as well.

Definitely get a trans jack but otherwise it's not that bad. Top bolts can be tricky without some real long extensions.

While you're in there replace the throwout/slave and the clutch line with oem parts.

Did my 15’ on jack stands years ago with some help and a trans jack so I highly recommend using one as well. I would imagine the QJ’s would be sufficient as long as you have the higher lift model

Was also able to do this on jack stands & cradles. I didn't buy the tranny jack but did tack 2 angle irons to one of my old jacks & it did the trick.

If just replacing the clutch/slave cylinder there's no need to remove trans from tunnel, just use tranny jack or regular jack with tranny strapped to the jack and slide it back in tunnel for room to get at clutch and slave cylinder in front of trans.

I read up on that being an issue getting to the top two bolts, so in order to avoid that, I removed my intake manifold to access them. This made it much easier. Last thing I wanted to do was round off the heads on those bolts and create a problem for myself.

I have never removed a trans from the S550 stang before but have removed hundreds of stick/auto trans in my career as auto tech and if you have a 3 ft extension and swivel socket, I have never had much issue getting to the top 2 trans bolts, have had to hammer pinch welds flat on a few for access but that's about it.

I used the bigger 6 ton jack stands and a transmission jack from harbor freight with no issue.

Just remember you'll have to remove the trans and trans jack fore or aft with QuickJacks.....hope they lift high enough first and you have enough room up front out out back to get it out on the trans jack??

GOOD LUCK!!
