It's an Ford/S550 thing. Mine fits like shit too. My F150 has its share of fit and finish issues too, but it bothers me less since it's a driver and a tool.

Meanwhile, there's a $26K VW in the fleet that has near perfect paint and panel fit. Some manufacturers give a damn.

Thanks for the ideas guys. I just looked again and per the below pictures it is clear that the deck lid is off. Iā€™ll try my dealer first and take it from there.

This is exactly the same issue mine had - looked just like that. The new lids looked the same and the tech that did work actually scratched the paint in that area doing the swaps. I kept the third lid because I didn't want to risk more damage only to have the same fit.

If you can't live with it as is, be advised they may make the situation worse. šŸ˜£

My decklid si set with even spacing right and left, but sticks out from the contour (as if it was not completely closed). Accidentally I talked to another Mach 1 owner here (with FJG package) who said he had it the same way. While @Charlemagne has it perfectly aligned (lucky bastard )

I adjusted my lid a little. It is held on by 4 clips on top and 4 screws on the bottom. There is a little room to slide it a little and one side of clips was not fully inserted. Not perfect but better.

Thanks, I looked at a couple of deck lid replacement videos on line and wonder if ther was any play in the slots for the clips.

My deck lid on my 21GT was mis-aligned too and I didnā€™t notice till it chipped the paint when opening the trunk. I had the dealer fix it and was happy with the repair.

You can adjust or reduce the gaps by adjusting the positions of the rear taillight assemblies.

Try this:
https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/threads/check-your-taillight-gaps.129865/page-4#post-3099616

And you can also try adjusting the rear trunk lid catch (and this thread also has users who did the washer trick noted in above thread):

I'm reading this thread and I was waiting (hoping?) for a reply like this.

While, yes, these adjustments should have been made at the factory, just about everything on the car can be adjusted.

I bought my car used (and it had been in a minor accident), but one of the things I noticed even in the pictures the dealer took was that the hood was very slightly off. First thing I did when I got home was adjust the bumpers and now it's dead on.

For the record... Look at the "hand-built" European supercars if you ever go to a car show. I've never seen one where every body panel is on straight and those things cost A LOT more than our cars. LOL

I'd say issues like this say less about the manufacturing plant than they do about the design. Quality needs to be designed into the product in such a way that it can be produced for the lowest possible cost. You need to solve for both quality and cost. Some companies get this, and others don't, which is why low cost econoboxes often have better fit and finish than higher end cars.

Should have bought a $350K Bentley or RR....I suppose an LC500 would be relatively defect free as well.

All brands under $150K have endless defects.

Really need to spend $300 K for good quality now.

Kind of like shoes. $600 gets a decent pair. $100 gets a lot of defects that few will notice.

I have no issues with the various Mustang defects it's part of the Mustang legacy and frankly the car would feel wierd if it didn't have defects.

I just smile when I notice the numerous fit and finish defects the rear window issue doesn't even bother me.

If it was an LC 500 or cost more than $150K it would.
My 17 4runner didnā€™t have much tighter gaps than ford but they are very consistent all around the vehicle. My 17 Audi is not only consistent but they are extremely tight tolerances. Neither of those were anywhere near $150k.
you donā€™t have to spend $300k for a car that has acceptable build quality. You just have to buy something not built by the big 3, as sad as that is to say.

Czech Å koda (VW Group) has "spotless" alignment compared to my Mach.
Yeah, and multiple engines over more than a decade's time with a defective piston ring design...

Yeah, which had recalls in USA and UK but not here, shamefully. Had to pay for new pistons and rings in my 1.8 TSI Passat myself...
