the economy will take care of itself.
there won't be an economy left. 12 million already additionally added to unemployment. Healthy people out and about has no downside. infected people out and about infecting people who will NOT end up in acute medical condition is a GOOD thing. The more people infected and who then generate resistance the better for those at-risk folk so far have managed to duck being infected, be it luck or self-isolation. If those who are high-risk (elderly or susceptible) do not mitigate their exposure risk, it's too damn bad if they catch it and die. Meanwhile the benevolent thing to do for those who are at risk is to get the rest of the population inured. So when they step outside the probability of infection (think measles) is minimized. But if you quarantine all the healthy people you PREVENT them from being infected and generating antibodies. So the at-risk people can NEVER come out their hidey hole because they are just as much at risk 3 months from now as they are today.

Again, NOTHING was accomplished.

if all the ICU beds fill, everyone else who NEEDS an ICU bed for any reason will most likely die.
correct. and that's how this cookie crumbles. If you end up in the ICU, you might as well say your prayers, you're even money dead. If you need a vent, you're 95% probability dead. More vents doesn't change outcomes. If you need one you're dead so lack of one doesn't matter.

No, you gain time as you bend the infection rate down. Don't be surprised when they start vaccinating high risk by late Summer. If they get an effective anti-viral treatment that can keep you out of the ICU, they will get a win also.

The Corp of Engineers is already planning temporary hospitals instructed by Trump. Plus, if it gets too bad, they will perform triage, which has been discussed, like in the Army and only save who can be saved and the let others die.

Some good news that the tide is turning. I just called my brother in Seattle and they pretty much have stopped the spread. Look at this. Remember how many per day in Washington. This is really good news.

read the UK paper I posted. Delaying the inevitable doesn't CHANGE the OUTCOME. The system being overwhelmed in July instead of April doesn't matter a damn. The system is still overwhelmed. Game over.

Are you seriously going to bet the entire global economy on something that has almost zero probability of happening? And how many TRILLIONS of dollars and billions of lives are we going to ruin for how long hoping the Vax will materialize? If we get one, then praise be. And then we can set about nuking GD Chinese Communists back to the stone age.

This is about the only prayer we have and it's not a done deal.

China's "new infection rate" has been nearly zero for a while now (if you believe them). That does NOT mean there is no more virus out there. As Wuhan goes back to work and social gatherings resume the people who are still carrying it may well start spreading it all over again and infecting those previously healthy but still without antibodies. And the numbers may well rocket upward like before. You can not reign it in until ~70% of everybody has been vax'd or infected and dealt with, be it survive to create anti-bodies or dead on a slab.

The VERY odd observation we have is SK. No national panic as such, no complete lockdown of the country. And yet mysteriously their "observed" infection rate came to a stand still. Why? Is SK already say 80% infected and nobody noticed?

Maybe you have or not read about all the talk about suing China over this or even war. They are going to pay one way or another. They have pissed off the world over this by covering it up.

No one will want to buy their products.

I meant it figuratively. Have a bonfire on the whitehouse lawn of all the Treasuries they own. Then terminate all trade with China. All you US companies who have supply chain in China, you take a nice big bite of the shit sandwich. And lest we just move production to the next attractive slave-wage shithole country (pakistan, bangladesh, india, rest of SE asia, mexico, south/mid-america) we enforce wage and ecological tariffs and put an end to this arbitrage that has been played for decades to the abject detriment of our citizens.

On top of companies that should shift out of China, the other thing we need to do that would be a huge FU to the asshole Saudis and Russians is only buy domestic oil. Not only would that send a message to enemies, but protect all our guys working here and many very important domestic oil companies.
