used c8 is so expensive you may as well buy new and even a used c7 is going for a bit less than a brand new mustang gt while being only a little bit faster and having zero practicality as a daily driver.

Im just going to wait until they make the mustang GT significantly faster and buy that.

Like so many other things in this world, you're paying more for the mystique than the product. And if you want the mystique, which your post makes it seem like you do, then the trade off is a higher price and less practicality.

The problem with corvettes right now is the idiots that bought them over sticker since 2020 still think they can get the premium they paid back in resale. And that's floated downstream to the c7's. Not to mention significant c8 transmission reliability concerns, with non transferrable warranty. Another 6 months or so before reality sets in for that market.

Even before supply constraints, corvettes held their value far more than most enthusiast cars.

With that said, while the “asking prices” may be high, it’d be worthwhile to consider both what you could reasonably obtain one for + what you could reasonably sell it for when you plan to exit.

The total cost during your ownership may be the same or cheaper than other cars with equal or lower asking prices currently.

As an 80s kid who grew up with the Lamborghini on my wall, I really would like to get into a C8, but the timing is not right for me. The transmission issue does cause me some pause too. I haven't met too many actual owners who have had it though. However, you are a fool if you buy a used one. MacMulkin has new ones on the lot for 10k off (I looked today)...ship anywhere. That would be my counter to any sales guy at any other dealer about it. Where I am in AL, it would be museum delivery...full stop. Now those have some limited options as far as colors etc. but it is a lot of 2LTs and a good range of colors. Ordering new is MSRP. I don't know how anyone is selling a C8 used for anything over 10k off original MSRP. Buying a corvette isn't an immediate need...I gotta have this car to get to work...lol.

They haven't made it any faster in almost 7 years so
Yeah, I was gonna say you may be waiting a while…

Unless of course you’re gonna go upstream from the GT to a halo model and even then I’m not sure there’s a real significant difference in the straight line power feel among the various models. I’ve had 7 new ones since 2020 with hp numbers ranging from 450 to 486, and I still have 4 of them. They all pull real strong when you’re gettin’ on them but I wouldn’t bet my life that one is a lot faster than another. I’ve never driven one of the older 435 hp jobbies but I’d about bet they’re the same. This is the main reason I’ve stopped thinking about yanking the carbon filters on my ‘23 Machs, at least for now. If I can’t feel it, why fool around with it? Its human nature to always want more, but on the street anyway where can you use it?

I think the biggest difference in butt dyno results comes from A10 vs. M6. Maybe a little going from 3.15-3.55-3.73 gears but it’s hard to separate that from the transmission type. And there are times when I think my lowly 2020 GT vert with A10/3.15s might just be the hardest puller I have. It‘s hard to say.

I’m wrong plenty but it‘s hard to see Ford making an ICE GT any faster. They don’t need to first off and they’ve kinda shown they aren’t going to increase hp without increasing weight too.

Real world 2016 GT 6 speed auto 0-60 on a normal road in fall conditions: Best I ever saw was 4.8. Normal was usually in the 5.2 range
Real world 2021 Mach 1 auto 0-60 on a normal road in fall conditions: Best 4.2. Normal is 4.4 - 4.6.

This is using the built in timer in both cars. Mach 1 in drag mode. 2016 was sport mode. Needless to say, I don't put much stock in any 0-60 advertised times. If it needs a prepped track and all of that...it isn't the real time that normal owners should expect.

I should also say both of my cars were fully stock. Mach 1 has the Ford Performance air filter...that is it.

Unless they plop the engine in the rear like the C8

I actually test drove a 22 Corvette this weekend. Amazing handling and impressively quick. Easily could be a daily for myself. I fit good in it, it rides great, comfortable.

But it doesn't elevate the senses for me. Borderline boring. I need a car that engages me and the C8 isn't it. If it had 3 pedals, then absolutely.

So I'm back to looking at C7s and C6s. Leaning toward the C6 as I think it's going to provide a more analog experience. I still have to drive one to find out.

McMulkin will order a new Stingray for you at 10% off MSRP now.

0-60 means dick but I guess you already know that

Now do a 2018 GT compared to a 2024 GT, both autos

Heck a 2021 GT M6 isn't much faster than a 2016 GT M6

despite the max power disadvantage, I would think the '16 trans ratios to be advantageous. It's definitely more FUN to row the narrower gear spacing even if it's not actually faster.

I found the C8 annoying to drive. And the lack of clutch overrides all positives it might otherwise have had.

I would do a ZL1 over a vette. Looks better and is fast and handles really well. Plus is cheaper than a base C8 or at least comparable for price, so is a gt500. The C8s look dated already and cannot be gotten with a manual. Plus, I'm not over 70 so I'm not allowed to purchase a Corvette.
