Damn. Another "I can drive through this" professional. More throttle never fixes it

The moment you feel the car going sideways, simply let off the throttle and keep the steering wheel pointed in the direction you want to go.

Do not hit the brakes
Do not agressively steer into the skid (this is most people's natural reaction, and is a hard habit to break)

Agreed. I have had my tail try to step on me a few times. As soon as you ease off the gas it self corrects usually. At the Mach 1 track attack it was nice to practice recovery on the skids, the instructor kept repeating look where you want to go and steer towards it gently. Brakes are the enemy while about to loose it so is sudden steering.

Exactly. The asshat in the camaro just kept the pedal mashed, which always ends up in disaster but people naturally try to "correct" the oversteer too, which is also a mistake. Catching the skid early and letting off the throttle ASAP is key to not making special with the trees. Lose the race and line em' up again, but people think they are Ken Block. A lot of times when someone does what the Camaro driver did, is the first time they have ever experienced losing the rear end and they panic, or think that by keeping the pedal floored that they can hook back up. Nope.

This has always been my method. Like I don't know how bad peoples reactions times are, or if they just think they're a great driver, but if you just simply get out of the throttle and point where ya wanna go it just works. And this car spins on the freeway at 70+ 🤣

I agree with this 100%. I was taught to drive at a young age and I’ve learned a lot throughout the years. I don’t go to the track often but when things go awry you gotta know what you’re doing.

This is exactly why you don't street race. If that car had hit and killed somebody and you were racing them guess what you will be charged also.
If he had got killed hitting the tree they would also charge you.

Just a reminder you may have complete control of your driving but you never know what can happen.

Kudos to the red car for seeing it and backing off.

One nice thing about being raised in in the north country. When I started driving lots of roads were dirt and we got many inches of snow in the winter. Northern Wisconsin.

You only stay in the throttle if you want to keep drifting.

Autocross teaches these lessons at a low cost which is nice. I remember the first time I tried to "catch" an oversteer moment while my throttle was pinned thinking I could wrestle it back or something, lol. Obviously not, the torque turning you around is working way faster than your arms ever could, lol. Hard lessons to learn if you're not in a safe environment (I've only ever owned FWD prior to this).

This.

I remember my Dad taking me to empty icy parking lots for crash courses in vehicle control. I still do it to this day, although all the nannies in late model vehicles do their best to ruin the fun.

And if we are getting super detailed, it's better to moderate the throttle slightly and gradually than to completely release it abruptly.

Going from full to no throttle transfers a lot of weight away from the rear tires. Not as much as slamming on the brakes, but you are much better off with a more subtle reaction to a skid.

People from up north joke we in the south can't drive on snow..We joke they don't know the difference between ice and snow :)
My daughter bought a 4 wheel drive jeep and I had to explain to her not to try driving

its crazy how much power cars have now. My first weekend driving my ecoboost on a misting day I got pissed and punched it to pass a car doing 30 and the backend started coming around. Can’t imagine you GT folks but after driving a 2013 Civic LX for years it was a eye opener.
