Sorry, I was talking about the Ford GT chassis not the Mustang GT :)

You're right, the Mustang and Corvette aren't competitors but I would say the GTD is.
Oh gotcha. I’m 100% on board with a TT Coyote using the Ford GT chassis. Make that happen Ford!

As for the GTD, yes I do think they will compete but as I’ve said in some other threads, it’s not exactly the same. You can roll up to your local Chevy dealer and buy a ZR1 off the lot (if they have one) or order one. You cannot do such a thing with the GTD. It is a truly limited production car that is only available via application, whereas the Vette’s production will only be limited by the number of buyers that want them/can afford them. So while GTD is technically a production car, it’s not along the same lines as the Vette. At least that’s the way I view it, I’m sure some see it differently.

That said, if the ZR1 takes down the GTD on track, that’s not a good look for Ford/Multimatic at all. Embarrassment is probably the proper word if that happens

The GTD is also not a factory built car, whereas I'm assuming the ZR1 will be.

You aren’t “rolling up to your local dealer” and getting a ZR1.

you’re calling across the United States (today) if you’re serious and saying I got 100K deposit on the ADM to lock in.

These cars are going to be Aventador money.

Yes we all know the reality and what availability will likely be on the ZR1, at least for the first couple of years. But, this is a car that can/will be bought from a dealership, so in theory, yes you can pull up to a local Chevy dealer and order one.

GTD you cannot do that in theory or in practice, so they’re very different from that standpoint. That’s all I’m saying.

I agree. While there will be a few outliers, in general no one is getting a ZR1 unless they're an influencer or they know someone.

For the initial cars selling over MSRP to millionaires, yes. After they get their cars, that probably won't be the case.

The Chief engineer said they will roll them out the same as all other c8s. Meaning the initial release will be slow. The usual crowd will over spend to get theirs first, and then the demand will fall and they will be had at MSRP or maybe even slightly under.

This is just the z06 engine with twin turbos, a beefed up drive train, extra cooling and a few panel differences and wheel options.

With the philosophy they plan to build as many as they can sell, this car will probably be much cheaper than most are expecting.

Will be curious how close they are with their pricing estimate. If it really starts around $180k, as others have said, that is the steal of the century. ADM will surely be on tap, but still an incredible
See.. I was pretty close with my guess of 100k cheaper than the GTD haha.

$100K ADM? I bet it will be much higher. I would think dealers will see what the ZR1's competition is geared towards (911 GT2 RS, SF90, Aventador, etc) and adjust their price accordingly. I am thinking well north of $400K for this one.

Wonder what the ZR-1 is going to bring once it’s a 5 year old used car.
MSRP

They are going to be building this car for a good 4 - 5 years. Towards the end of the cycle they will be the cheapest they get, and then when they are done building them, the price will shoot up like the C7 ZR1 did.

I doubt that Ford can do anything like it without outsourcing all development to a 3rd party partner with actual capability

And with their $1.1 bil loss on EV's and warranty losses factored. They went in way too hard with EVs.

They want EVs to take off so badly.
Much better profit margins for the big 3
People thought it was the government forcing them, but it was them forcing the government to try and get public on board.

companies run the U.S., not the other way around.

Good point and agreed. Ford still has to green light it though. Alas, it’s probably wishful thinking at this point. Still excited to see what GTD does though
