One time.... One time I used a cordless impact to "start" my balancer bolt in my Coyote. Literally, on the third "ugga" it snapped it clean off in the crank.

The factory bolt, and the design is poop. I always do them by hand, and make sure the threads are cleaned and lubed. I don't wanna go through that removal process again.

NOTE: I have still never had a single crankshaft failure in any car I have tuned. (hundreds at this
point)
Good advice. I think at the end of the day torquing to specs is always the best policy. And proper tools are a must.

80foxcoupe,

I am not saying anything. But there is prior thread on 6G where some crank snouts broke and the consensus (not my consensus) was an aftermarket balancer coupled with improper installation was probable.

So essentially both points, i.e. the balancer and the installation method.

TGGT used the factory balancer, but I want to emphasis I am not saying his installation method was flawed.

I'm just trying to draw some reasonable lessons from his unfortunate circumstances since I have essentially the same set up.

I think a 3rd possibility is a flaw in a specific crank, which could explain N/A and turbo failures.

I may go that route or just a new gen3 short block
Hopefully the heads can be rebuilt. What ever I do It will definitely have the crank support on it.
Gen3 shortblocks are very affordable.

Pretty sure that’s the way I’m going. It’s the crank support, new balancer, new timing chains and tensioners, head studs, oil pump gears, and gaskets etc that are going to end up costing the most. Oh and what ever work the heads need. Also may as well throw some better valve springs on while I’m there.

Perhaps, but I will say I am extremely accurate with an impact gun
Sorry but there is no way you can be anywhere near accurate with torque specs using an impact gun unless you are using torque limiting extensions. Just hitting it till it feels right is wrong.

$999

Last time I ordered dirt it cost more.
$999 for a complete short block? Crazy if true...

What about a gen 2 short block? What about long block pricing for each?

Sorry to derail... couldn’t believe the $999
