AmericanMusscle has the automatic trans ball style shift levers that make it look like a stick shift in black or white. Can't decide, leaning towards white. Opinions? I know, it's my choice, but just looking for some feedback. Thanks.

White Madness Garage universal short shifter with Ruby Red ball. The universal shifter allows you to change the ball without disassembling the shaft and trim.

I also have the SR Performance shifter with a black ball from AM. I really like it - the polymer ball has a bunch of fine multicolored metal flakes in it and it really coordinates with a black interior (and a DMG car specifically) really well. But, you can't separate the ball from the shaft if you'd like a different ball.

The WMG ball is painted steel and you've got to cut an inch off of the underlying base shaft with a hacksaw to install it. (That part made me nervous.) You can restore to OEM with the shortened shaft, though. The best part is that they and other companies sell a pretty impressive selection of balls (manual or auto) that spin on and off with standard M12 x 1.25 threads. It's worth the extra cash to me. Hope this helps.

Is it hard to install?
Nope. There's a pretty good you tube video for it here:

The shifter boot is glued to the OEM shifter. You have to pull the leather fabric away from where it's attached and break the glue. It's soft and lets go with gentle pressure. You then insert the White Madness shaft through the boot and secure the boot to the shaft with a zip-tie. The 'head' of the zip tie should be positioned at the boot seam, on the backside of the shaft, not the front side. Use a cloth to cover the stuff below the console to keep metal sawdust out and to catch the little screws when you drop them. That's all I've got as far as tips go. Oh, yeah - position the locknut on the threaded shaft about 2/3 of the way up the shaft when you screw the ball on there. If you screw the ball too far down on the shaft, it won't unlock the shifter when you push down to put it in gear. You've gotta spin the ball on pretty fast and then twist to lock it to the nut - you can't get a wrench on the locknut. A little dab of blue locktite isn't a bad idea either.

To bad there is not one that requires cuts on the shaft, replace the shifting ball only

That's true. Cutting the shaft doesn't really matter. The original shift handle will work just fine with the shortened base shaft. Once it's done, the WMG universal shaft allows the ball to be changed.

My car is Kona blue with white seats, so I chose the SR white one. It has worked flawlessly for 4 years.
Heaven only knows how many thefts have been deterred due to the car appearing to be a manual.

White Madness shifter original; not the interchangeable ball but he custom engraved it to match my dash plate that came on the car.

I didn't like the way those looked, so I went with the Hurst shifter. Unless your heart is set to make it look like a manual
