As much as I lust after the R, I can't justify the 20-25k delta it would be to get one. Even at MSRP its almost a 20k swing once factoring in the sales tax and mods I did to my track pack car. It is a different story if I could have bought one originally at or near MSRP

I'll be content with some ligther wheels and sticky tires, maybe in 2019-2020 when ppl are upgrading to the latest and greatest then used R's might be more reasonable and I can make the switch.
At msrp, it's way less than $10k difference even after tax.

R is fun and unique. I've driven 3500 miles on the street so far without really worrying about the wheels. Honestly I worry about the splitter more. You could DD an R buy why?

Buy the R! I sold my 350 track pack and it was a beast with track with FP track settings. I cant wait on to take the R to the track and back roads. I don't do ADM so I bought mine used for a steal. Get the R! I am sure that under normal driving conditions it will be hard discern much difference. However I got a base R and 150lbs lighter is a lot that you can feel.

My brother has an R and when he came to visit a few months ago we took my old track pack out. His opinion was that everything felt "muted". Sound, handling, steering.

Isn't it $7500 more before adding in A/C, et. al. which adds $3000? Before any ADM?

Hi OP,

In my case I knew right away the R was the car I wanted...if I could find it. The overall look, feel and that flippin sweet red badge I had to have it...if I could find it. After 2-3mos of searching I had all but given up and was narrowing down color/options on what Z06 I was going to purchase (yeah it's true). I ran another dealer search within 250mi of my home on a whim and found my baby inbound to a dealer about 1.5hr away.

I showed up to negotiate and their sales folks didnt even know it was inbound! Got the internet team to show them the VIN. Now this dealer had 2 gt350s there and really wanted to sell me one...and they are really nice cars (AG w/ white stripes and a Blk w/white stripes). I held out and got a deal I could handle on the inbound Magnetic R...not as good as your potential deal btw.

Fast forward 4-5wks to May 5th, 2017 when I laid eyes on my R parked next to the other two. Man among boys in my eyes...there is a mystique about the car that is hard to characterize with the written word. The stance, the wing, the growl...if they were animals it might've gotten up and eaten the other two lol.

I knew I had made the right choice for me...and I think as others have pointed out decide what is important to you then go with your gut, heart, etc and enjoy no matter what you decide!

MSRP difference between the two is 10k (assuming R package+electronics) and I lose the 7k and change in sales tax/registration/transport fees (California does not give you credit on a trade in when calculating sales tax on a new car) and I spent another 4k in mods that I wont really recover (clear bra, ceramic pro, R wheel, R calipers, etc). So for me its a 20k+ delta assuming I could find one at MSRP AND sell my current car for MSRP, where as if it was a new car it would be 11k difference (10k difference in sticker plus 10% sales tax on that 10k)

Of course the R guys are going to say that it's 1000X better than a non-R, I'm not surprised. :)

My heart wanted an R; my head knew the non-R was best for me.

It was an easy decision at the time because finding an available R at a reasonable price was extremely rare.

NO RAGRETS. ;-)

The "R" snobs are here. Man, you'd think the standard GT350 was an ecoboost to these guys. The differences are not as great as some proclaim, I have driven both and the standard GT350 is an amazing drive, no doubt.

The "R" gives you some exclusivity and the add-ons are very nice (just ask the R owners here, lol). While I like the enthusiasm of the current R owners (R or nothing!), the reality is it may not be the best car for you given your circumstances.

For instance, do you want a daily driver? Need 4 seats? Want more comfort? Do you plan on tracking your car? Do you have a good shop around you that can mount tires on $13K Carbon Fiber wheels comfortably? Do you feel like replacing those Cup2 tires after 2K or so miles is not a big deal? Or do you care to buy another set of wheels and tires for everyday use (negating the HUGE gain you get from the CF wheels in the first place)?

That being said, I want an R because I use my car as a weekend car and plan trips to the track with friends. I just don't want to pay a huge ADM, so I'm waiting for the right car. As it stands right now, I am extremely happy with my GT350 and would keep it if I had to daily drive it.

Non-R for me! I wanted a car I could enjoy every day and not have to worry about this and that. Also I can mod it to my liking without regrets. I feel as though if I had an R it would be more of garage queen I would take out every now and then with occasional track days. This is in contrast with a non-R that I can daily and take it out for occasional track days.

I love the red badges, love the red calipers, but I hate how the bigger spoiler blocks vision to the rear. I'd be the guy who swaps out to a track pack spoiler on an R. Don't like the idea of the bigger splitter if I don't have the bigger spoiler to go with it, so I would also switch to standard splitter. Carbon Fiber wheels? Yeah right, I would only use those at the track so those would come off the car and get replaced with forged aluminum wheels.

At the end of the day, the R, while intriguing didn't make sense for my lifestyle. At least not this stage in my life.
