As has been discussed on numerous forums, for 2019, the adjustable strut top mounts were a dealer installed item. I have them still in the box for my R. I go back and forth about installing them. They are supposed to be on the car. Right now, the car drives straight as an arrow. I will never track it. Are there any disadvantages to installing them? I know the original owner didn’t want them installed because he was afraid it would get messed up and cause issues with tire wear, driving straight etc.

Looking for thoughts and opinions. Right now I’m leaning to install them solely because they are supposed to be in the car as part of the R package.

“Supposed to be installed”? Meh. I would absolutely not get hung up on those semantics. If it drives straight, you’re happy, and tire wear is good, leave it be. And by most accounts, if tire wear isn’t good, it’s more than likely toe vs camber anyways, thus the plates buy you absolutely nothing.

Only reason, and I do mean only, to install them in your scenario would be if you’re completely OCD about the minutia things and need your camber to be spot on perfect side to side (like I am, lol). But don’t get an alignment check and you’ll never know — ignorance is bliss.

If you drive the car hard in corners, absolutely install them and dial in more negative camber. If you're a more laid back driver and don't push too hard in the corners then yeah, leave em be.

An R that drives straight is a rare beast indeed. Is the car on the factory Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires? They usually tramline like crazy unless the front and rear alignment is absolutely perfect. So, if you're on the factory tires and it doesn't tramline, leave it alone.

Put them on, get a proper alignment, and enjoy the car. These cars are meant to be darty, so enjoy it! It makes driving a much more active participant role anyways!

The only real disadvantage is cost to do so. Install (if you're paying someone else to do it), and an alignment after.

The only advantage they provide is adjustment capability.

If you're happy with how the car drives, and happy with the tire wear, I wouldn't bother with it.
