This is definitely concerning though. I’ll be going into mine in the near future and I’m hoping not to find similar results.
It is. I was just doing VCT solenoids because of the rough idle, otherwise I wouldn't have known at all. A $100 job for solenoids quickly turned into a $1k job. I had no idea coyotes had some cam issues..this is the whole reason I got out of Mopar :'(
Perhaps just bad luck though as it's not as heard of

Sadly I believe it's out warranty. As for the cams they're likely toast. As said on one lobe I could slightly feel the wear mark with my finger which is excessive beyond just surface damage, it's wear pattern is exactly like the others.

I attempted to check tolerances with a feeler gauge but even .0012" didn't fit. Rollers have no up/down play, just a little side to side which I'm assuming is normal.

At this point I'm guessing a tear down, new cams/rockers/lifters etc is the best idea. And while I'm there maybe new phasers as they're prone to going bad I heard.

Running it as is would likely just keep wearing the cams down until something breaks and then it'll be too late.
Sounds like a good plan! I’ll be thoroughly checking all of that when I pull my covers. I just ordered and received a set of HD springs, seals, retainers and locks. I’ll also pick up some bronze valve guides too. Might as well do everything while I’m right there.

Possibly, a tear down will show. For correlation mine was built in 08/19. I can look around and see if others have same issue around that time
I believe that’s when my 2019 was built as well.

Definitely a strange one. Seems unlikely the entire passenger side head has oiling issues with how widespread those marks are. In fact, any of the normal causes for this seem unlikely if it's only affecting one side of the engine. Unless the cylinder head was just machined improperly or something, I can't envision what's been going on there. Just putting new cams and followers in it probably isn't going to solve whatever the issue is, just prolong it.

I agree. I'm beginning to wonder if it's something in the head that's out of spec. I can't see it being rollers locking up or an oil issue as they're all identically worn. In the case it is the head such as cam journal height or something along those lines then it would just eat up another set of cams.

Tearing it down and checking is the only way to know but I'll have to hunt down specs for the head.

I’d try spraying brake and parts cleaner in the oiling holes and blow them out with compressed air before reassembly. Maybe one of the passages has debris in it, which prevented oil flow.

Mine has had the cricket chirp sound at idle for a few years now. @BlueAngel19 did you have that sound as well?

If I get to tearing it down I'll let y'all know
I remember there being a TSB or some "recall" for some GT models that had defective cylinder heads or cam caps. Some casting issue. But I can't remember which model years and months were supposedly affected. I don't think it applies to yours but it makes you wonder. My car was built like 2 months after yours lol

I sent a PM to MMR here asking them to chime in and offer their expert opinion to try and help us all to better understand what could have caused this.

nitride coating (?) is gone
Does Ford nitride treat the OEM cams and are the cams cast iron or start as billet steel ? I’m asking because I have no idea. The cams look like a steel forging to me.

Not sure, it just looks like it's flaking off and not just worn

If the two materials are close in Rockwell hardness there’s a good chance what we’re looking at happened during break-in and hasn’t changed since then.
I’m just the guy looking at forum pix. I agree visually those lobes look like an oh shit moment is imminent. I’d start with consulting a pro-level camshaft expert.

Doing VCT solenoids on my 2019 GT at 41k miles (random rough idle and stalling with sudden timing fluctuations) and noticed my driver side camshafts have abnormal wear patterns. Passenger side cams are perfect.
Engine is completely stock, stock tune.
I bought it at 32k miles, it had regular oil changed based on records and it appears clean on inside. I switched to 5w30 but if it were the oil then the passenger side would look the same.

Based on this damage it appears the cams/followers should be replaced. If it weren't for changing the vct solenoids I would have never known. No noises, no lights, no metal in oil.

Wow. I wonder if there a defect in the manufacturing process or something. This used to happen on the model years of Ducatis from years ago. They would end up flaking and circulating in the engine

Yes, unfortunately those cams and followers will need to be replaced, hopefully the cam journals are okay?? The heads are oiled via a tunnel in the cylinder heads that provides oil to the lifters, but this is only AFTER it goes through a small hole in the steel plug at the front of the head. We have seen these holes get plugged or restricted many times producing these same results. One member mentioned our head oiling mod, the answer is yes, this would have prevented this because it would have balanced the flow from the other cylinder head. For those looking the MMR head oiling mod can be found here: https://www.modularmotorsportsracin...e=product_info&cPath=4_30_49&products_id=1517
