Hi guys,

This past week I’ve had wet carpets on the drivers side (rhs) found the door stickers to be peeling as mentioned on other threads so fixed those. After extracting several litres of water and getting the carpets dry finally, I took it out for a drive in the rain hoping to have sorted it but to no avail, I had a puddle again.

After routing around I found this cable harness which push fits on clips into the body next to the cabin fuse box. After pulling it out there’s water basically full up to the bottom hole, after more searching and spraying over the car I’ve found this hole, water seems to be running straight off the windscreen and flooding this hole which seems to just fill into the bottom of the A pillar/chassis.

Does anyone happen to know if there’s a grommet/plug that’s missing from here? The scuttles never been removed as far as I’m aware so struggling to understand how it could’ve come out.

Videos listed below!
Any help appreciated thanks!

May have answered my own question after scouring the internet for a picture with the scuttle removed. 😅Could only find a deceased one on eBay… seems like there certainly is a raised plug or a grommet that should be in there!

If someone could clarify if it’s just completely plugged or if it’s supposed to be a raised grommet instead it’d be appreciated :)

I’ll attach the images I’ve found anyway

The area you highlighted looks pretty well-covered. As you pointed out, Ford leaves several holes and access ports open throughout assembly. For this specific area, I can't remember anyone writing in to plug that port. But I've got an easy fix though: a Band-Aid, like the kind you use when you nick (as in to cut, not steal :giggle:) yourself shaving.

Clean the area as best you can with alchohol. Ensure it is dry. Affix a Band-Aid. You could also use a small piece of duct tape or something of the sort. If that fixes it, great. You can later go back and use a rubber plug from the hardware store or silicone sealer. Something more permanent.

I'm enclosing several references to leak threads. I did not look through each one. But this one is kind of close: it highlights how small defects are left behind or can occur over time. Most simply apply sealant. See page three of this thread:

Leaks around the A-pillar and windshield are VERY common in the 2015-2017 S550's. I had one in my 2015. That's just one of the reasons I traded for a 2019.

The A-pillar was the most common area of water intrusion for an S550 and Ford released a TSB on it to address it:
https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/th...-s550s-a-pillar-water-intrusion-leaks.178242/

The area in the OP’s above image, I would not think would be of concern and I’m not even sure if that specific area has any cabin intrusion. To me, that specific area looks like it would follow a path to drain within the inner fender structure outside of the vehicle under the front fender (when fender is mounted).

A-pillar water intrusion will be the areas in the Ford TSB or it’s going to be a breach under the windshield - either by a bad body weld (which has been found by a few M6G members) or poor sealing of the windshield to the body.

This thread (and another link in it) contains the windshield to A-pillar breaches:

Just put some water through the hole and see if it comes into the car or onto your feet via the wheel arch liner!

Yeah poured water in the hole and it comes out inside the car, seems to just be filling up the door pillar then leaking through a cable push fit clip, same pillar that the door jam stickers fail on and leak through. In fact when you pour water in the hole you can see it drip on the door cable grommet within the body.

Taped it up for now but wondering what that area looks like on someone else’s dry car to confirm :)

The door pillar should not fill with water. My WAG is there's a drain or passage at the bottom that has clogged with debris. Perhaps look from underneath the car to see if there's dampness in the area. Just guessing but plug or not there should be a way for water to pass out.

I wanted to come back and respond to the question of the plug. I do not have an answer.

The 6G cars launched in 2015, with a refresh in 2018. Your car is a 2017. Mine is a 2022.

I had a chance to study my cowl today. Several aspects of it aren't like yours at all. The most obvious being you can lift a rubberized piece to access the area of interest. My cowl is rigid, from one end to the other. It's also secured in-place by several body rivets. I can't even lift one edge enough to get a good look under. While not sealed with a sealant or gasket, the fit is so snug I'd have to be blasting the area with a hose to have any chance of effect.

Cleaning and sealing that port seems like a plan. You could also consider replacing the cowl or that section. A new or slightly used piece might be more pliable and hug the curves of the body better. Finally, as @ORRadtech tech mentioned, it might be a good idea to look in the bottom of the fender area. Wheel well fasteners can be removed at the bottom, allowing someone to pull the well cover back and get into the area between the fender and the unibody. You might have dirt, leaves and other items blocking a drain port there.
