Cowl Drain Valve

Does anyone know if there is a way to gain access to it without pulling the cowl grille off? I believe it is clogged on my car causing an interior passenger side water leak. Thank you.

Yeah, I dont believe it's a heater core leak. I am not losing coolant and water only runs from the dash when its raining whether I am driving the car or not. I found a puddle on the passenger floor mat before I started the car today.

Have any rust showing around the windshield trim? How about cowl area below the windshield wipers? The grill, put a flash light on it, look for rust inside.

I take it this is something that has just showed up?

There is no rust around the windshield trim. The Urethane seals are intact on the windshield. The valve under the Cowl is about all I have come up with. I am not sure when it started happening.

So I just learned first hand the way to access it is to pull the battery tray out and wheel liner and it can be replaced that way. Does anyone know what possible effects could occur if I modified the valve to stay open?

What is the valve for ? lets start with that, when that is known, decide.

If the valve just dumps the condensation from the AC evaporator, I'd say will not hurt.

It's the Drain Valve for the Cowl. It drains water from the cowl.

Heck, that's what you want water on the ground not on the floor inside, L0L. Strange that would have a valve, love to know the logic behind that ?

What we get today with computers, a CAD app & engineers with nothing better to do. Make a part, for who knows what reason ..

Yeah, I'm not exactly sure why there is a valve. I'd assume to stop road water from getting in but, you know what they say about assuming.

Can you either please post pics of this “cowl drain valve” from your vehicle to show the exact location and what the part looks like or any from the shop manual?

So is this cowl drainage valve being operated by electrical mechanics OR does it open manually with weight of water flow from cowl?

Does it serve any functional purpose for the HVAC system?

My first thought was that this would bring in fresh air from the outside and is operated by electric vacuum doors under the dash based on user settings.

It opens manually with the flow of the water. I will post pictures when I get the replacement part which required special ordering. It is located right behind the battery tray and it seems it only collects water run off from the cowl. That opens a detailed part description page, naming all. There is a water deflector, part #6. That's some water control going on right there.

I’m trying to figure out, what detrimental effects would occur if you just remove the valve’s flapper door completely?

I mean, if the purpose is to drain water from the cowl, why would there be a door on it to begin with? If the door was removed and it’s opened all the time, does it create wind noise or allows excess noise into cabin while the car is in motion?

I’m just not understanding the design 100% and the use of the flapper door on the part, more so because looking at it and the location of it based on the diagrams, the intent is to drain water from or away from the cowl...

Exactly, I am going to remove the door on the present one once the replacement arrives incase I mess something up. I am not sure what negative effects myself, the only thing I could think of is, in a water fording situation the potential of water rushing into the cabin air filter. Presently, if water got to that height, the flapper valve would stop the water, possibly. That's just my theory though...
