I figure I would make a post about this. If anyone didn't know, the new S650 has a larger 48 series battery and also AGM. So I bought the battery tray and other needed parts and obviously the battery since I don't like having such a small battery. The tray needed some minor modifications since the holes are different and some spacers on the bottom to make it level. But that was it and now have stronger starts and car is happier with it. If anyone is interested, I can post the part #'s as well for all that is needed. The cover doesn't quite fit so I may end up trying the S650 cover but it's a $110 part that IDEK would work. But put some dielectric grease on top of the terminals to protect against any water just in case.

What's the factory S550 size and I assume factory isn't AGM? I'd be interested in getting the Motorcraft AGM for mine before the stock one leaks out and rusts the car.... seems like a good idea, anyway.

S550 stock battery is standard flooded 96R with a rating of 590CCA.
Switching to an AGM battery in the 96R size won't gain you capacity though, which is most peoples complaint. The OP's thread is about upgrading to a larger battery/capacity not just going AGM.

AGM version of the same size battery has significantly higher CCA... In the 700s.

It would be wonderful if you could post a link to a 96R AGM battery with 700CCA. I, and I'm sure many others, would be all over that.
Best I could find is one that claims 600 CCA

Okay, to be honest I am pretty sure that my Google search sent me astray to a different battery size. That said, the AGM batteries do have cranking well over 700 most of the time, at least at 32 degrees fahrenheit. For me the zero degrees Fahrenheit cold cranking amps is utterly irrelevant. My car will never see a temperature below 32.

Group 96R is just a weird battery ... not very many vehicles use it. Ford/Mercury , VW golf, & one model of Mazda.

THis is why choices are extremely limited.

With the battery cover yeah but without the cover seems perfectly fine. We needed to cut the alignment dowels on the new tray by about half and some spacers around the holes for it to sit level and proper. Plus had to make the holes in the tray a little bigger to get to the factory mounts. They are pretty close but still needed to adjust that. So not totally plug and play but I'd say minor work to get it to work. As an FYI.

You can buy the H5 (47) AGM and it will work fine and provide more cranking power than stock.
