With those plastic engine parts that are designed to fail inside the motor?

Sad that BMW neuters their cars long term that way still to this day. Just costs way too much to operate one for 10 years with all the maintenance and upkeep, some of which you just wouldn't have to do if they'd spend a few more bucks on some metal parts where it counts.
Didn't say I'd have kept it after the warranty went out ;)

Upshifts are faster than a PDK, downshifts can be annoyingly harsh especially 3-2-1. All things considered I think the beauty of the 10 speed is actually having 10 gears. With all of the ratios so close together, when tracking you only really have to shift a couple of times, maybe 4-5-6.

The 10R80 may be strong, but it is nowhere near as user friendly as a PDK. The PDK shifted in milliseconds, the 10R80 takes centuries to follow my command.

I tell the 10R80 to downshift, wait a second, tap down, wait a second, tap down, wait then B-A-N-G it shifts three at once feels like I hit a tree.

Ford's manual transmission has problems and their automatic also has problems. The ZF (6 speed manual) in my 335Xi is fun and willing to play. The PDK is a joy.

Why can't Ford and GM make a fun transmission?
Ford MOTOR Company. General MOTORS. Not Ford Transmission Company or General Transmissions. It is my belief that transmissions are not Ford or GMs strong areas, never have been. My impression is because they design the transmission theyd like , then farm out the production to another company, whereas their motors are built in their own factories. I don't know this is the reason, but that's my impression. Ford/GM do make some great motors, but if i think of all the Ford and GM car deaths ive heard about over the years, transmission issues seem to get the cars off of the road more so than motor issues.

To be fair though, there is a reason why i buy manual cars and not autos now. My first car was a 90 toyota corolla dx, a 1.6 with a 3 speed auto. Mechanical transmission. Would not go into 3rd until you hit 40, and people loved to go 35 in front of me. Which means WAAAAHHHHH... pause... WAAAAHHHH... pause. Id have to slow down, get a run up to 40 going, then back off but not too much. Effectively ruined autos for me.

How much are you comfortable paying for your Mustang? They offered a pretty sick double clutch transmission in the GT500, but that costs $100K.

They also offer two different manual transmissions.

The Coyote has the same plastic timing chain guides as any BMW does. I actually can't think of a design that doesn't, now that I think about it. Would you prefer they went back to timing belts that you have to change every 60K miles?

Edit: If you really want to shit on a particular brand for crummy plastic engine parts, you should look at Audi. Not only do they use really crap plastic timing chain guides, but they're located at the back, so you have to pull the engine out of the car to change them, and there's a crapton of them in there.

I use the paddles on my tuned Mach 1 90% of the time and I will say there is no delay if driven right.
Learning how to drive it properly takes time and practice.
If the trans is cold, you will have delay, also if you are driving like a granny you will have delay. Otherwise it just fine and pretty damn fun!
Mach 1 does have upgraded converter, tune and cooling .
At end of the day, its a pressure thing.

Did you install an upgraded converter? I wasn't aware the transmission was any different on the mach 1?!

This is from carscoops.com in a Mach 1 artical and I have read it in multiple other places.
Also 75% more cooling capacity

" Another key highlight of the Mach 1 is the fact that it has the same six-speed Tremec 3160 manual transmission as the Shelby GT350. Customers can also opt for a 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission with an upgraded torque converter and bespoke calibration. "

I know it has more cooling capacity due to the upgraded radiator, but I do not think it has an upgraded converter. It is the same part number for the GT

I don't know but here's another article from Ford.

https://media.ford.com/content/ford.../18/Ford-Mustang-Mach-1-Has-Touched-Down.html

"Mustang Mach 1 customers have a choice of high-strength, high-precision transmissions designed to comfortably manage high-rpm gear-shifts. Offered for the first time in Europe on a production Mustang, the TREMEC six-speed manual gearbox features a robust twin-disc clutch and short-throw shifter, while aggressive upshifts and downshifts are made smoother, more precise and easier to perform with rev-matching technology and flat shift capability. Also available is Ford’s advanced 10-speed automatic gearbox, featuring an upgraded torque converter and unique calibration.

Both transmissions benefit from a dedicated oil cooler, rear axle cooling system and limited slip differential for consistently optimised transfer of torque to the road. The 10-speed automatic also features a second air-to-oil cooler – increasing cooling capacity by a further 75 per cent."

Both articles you sent specifically highlight the European variants. I wonder if they got a different converter to compensate for the lack of power. Either way the U.S. spec shares the same part for all 10 speed mustang GTs. If it truly was an upgraded part we would find a part number... still haven't found one specific to the M1 only.

Believe what you want, I have read it in many places and watched multiple videos where lead ford engineer say it does. Jay Leno rode with him in A10 Mach 1 and he said that there too I believe. nuff said

No not nuff said... Don't believe everything you read on the internet. Find me a specific part number and I'll believe you. Ford says stuff all the time and doesn't follow through.

Also I am an actual automotive engineer, which video of the lead ford engineer are you referring. Chances are I know him...

So call one of your engineering buddies at Ford and ask them.
