Thats some horrible news about COTA. That was a bucket list track for me.

Road Atlanta has a noise ordinance on Sunday morning from 10 AM to noon or 1 PM but then its all back to normal.

Hope to meet/see you at Road Atlanta some time Kevin.

Niceeeee, will you share how much leaner (hotter) the rear cylinders are and how much fuel is needed to get them all balanced ? Cant wait to hear this thing with you new setup should sound like little miracles going off when at full tilt
100%. I plan to document and share everything!

I obviously know less than you, BUT there has to be some serious MFG money coming in to offset the lost revenue from all the events. And it goes beyond that. The hotels I stay at, the food I buy, the gas I buy, the gas station I hit up 1-2 times a day, it's just a huge impact to the community.

Isn't there some sound restriction discussions around CotA as the area builds up too? (Nevermind the morons that move next to a race track and don't expect to hear people having fun)

I seem to recall an ordinance discussion some time around Q3 of 2025 revolving around noise.
I actually think its worse than that. I think they're just massively out of touch. COTA started out being super private. Took a few years to allow any peasants on track and it only happened because Karen (Edge Addicts) knows the owners and was able to work something out. But it was never their original intention. And now, the Chairman of COTA is putting this type of stuff out there: https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/news/circuit-of-the-americas-goes-members-only-for-2027/

“What Augusta is to golf in the U.S., we think we could be to race tracks,” Epstein told The Athletic. “We’re home of the United States Grand Prix, which is a highly prestigious event, so like the Masters is in golf. We have a track that’s unparalleled in design and its features. And I don’t think anyone’s about to go out and spend $400 million building a race track for a private driving club.”
What a depressing vision for a race track.

Not to mention their private clubhouse they're building takes out about 10,000 of the best seats at the F1 race by being placed right at the top of the T1 hill.

I would say comparing golf to track days is about the worst comparison one can do.

Spa, Imola, Suzuka, Silverstone, all great F1 tracks allow public track days. Sad it's come to this. Whatever I'll get my fill this year, then off to all sorts of other tracks in 2027.

Had a chance to walk around COTA just before construction wrapped up. Was a super cool experience. While I can appreciate the comparison between COTA and Augusta (world class venues that host prestigious events), it does fall short to me being an avid golfer. There are some outstanding golf courses that host 2 of the other 3 majors here in the US (US Open and PGA Championship) that are open to the public every day when they aren’t hosting a major tournament. They may not be the cheapest places to play, but you or I can get a tee time and play. Places like Bethpage, Whistling Straits, Pebble Beach, Pinehurst, Erin Hills and Torrey Pines. No reason a track like COTA can’t be the Pebble Beach of race tracks. So disappointing.

Sorry to hear about COTA. Every year after attending open track days at Road America I send an email to staff thanking them for providing the opportunity for us average guys to be able to drive that course. The closest thing we have to a COTA type club design is the Autobahn Club in Joliet IL. They graciously offer organized groups (NWSC) to run on their courses. I think the entry fee for being a club member is somewhere around 75k.

Sorry for derailing your thread Kevin, but this is a hot topic...

I get that COTA and other tracks can make great income from these ridiculous memberships but I'd have to think open track days are a great way to make money as a filler on the calendar.

How many people are actually going to get a membership here at that price? Track guys already account for a very small portion of the population, now adding that level of personal income....I'd think a small handful of people fill their list. And the type of person who could afford this are probably CEO's, executives, and business owners.....the type of people who have extremely limited free time. Other than pro racing events, I bet the track gets used 5% of the available time. Why not open it to the public?

Another thing, I like to travel to different tracks. I would not join one (1) track "club" when I can travel the country and see other tracks.

We have had 2 open here in Florida the last few years with 2 more coming on line. Been approached to join them, but I enjoy tracks like Daytona, Barber and Road Atlanta and others. COTA was a bucket list to run and Road America is also on the list for one day.

If you come up north to do RA, stop at Autobahn CC in Joliet, IL. It’s not at the level of RA, but it’s a fun track.

yep. It’s appalling. very hostile towards normal folks. I’ll likely stop supporting events at COTA.

100% the same. Looks loke

Not to mention all are objectively nicer in both geography and design. COTA isn’t exactly in a beautiful area…

that’s the wild part to me. But it just goes to show, they don’t actually care about the customers. They want a playground for their buddies that can afford it and then have a few events a year to prestige.

I’ll see if I can drag @Tonymustang302

I was told they make between 50-60m a year from the “grassroots” crowd. So it’s a drop in the bucket compared to F1. But agreed, I think they’ll lose money from this move. But I also don’t think they’ll care. They want it private to keep the riff raff out

I’m there with you. Outside of Ozarks (which I haven’t drive ), I’ve yet to drive a club track that is even half as good as the old school ones like Road America, road Atlanta, VIR, etc.

I’ve been eyeing it! I’ll be up in July again

Been to Ozarks twice now, once with the 350 and once with the new 500.

Awesome track and will go back again. Its a 20 HR trip from Florida so limited on making it there often.

I used to live 2 hrs. from OIR. I have been on it five times and loved it. I moved to NC so now enjoying the tracks out here. OIR is amazing and I would suggest you make a trip up to try it out. You won't be disappointed.
