I'm picking up what you're laying down...I think I'll be doing a little cutting, just make the hole a touch bigger...and I have checked out the Rousch vent covers which are actually more open than the ones I got...I have had the open GT350 air box which does not seal well on the hood. Then I went to the GT 500 cover to close the air box. Then I opened up the grill inlet. I have achieved the same performance as the stock GT air box as far as inlet air temps.
Cut the hood, install Race Louvers. Better cooling when moving. Slightly better IAT recovery after sitting in traffic and you get moving. Better front downforce if you need it.
For solving your inlet temp problem? If you have to drive the car, don’t worry about it. How much power do you need to sit in traffic? I would think just enough to run the a/c.
Trying to not be a smart ass, but this is a problem that everyone has and almost no one is too concerned about.
I hope you meant that as satire....The RTR (https://www.rtrvehicles.com/products/rtr-hood-vents-18-20) are great as well, as it actually increase the Bernouilli effect helping increase the pressure drop.
With the same hole size, increasing the difference in pressure (in that case, lowering it), will make the speed of the airflow through the hole increase, up to a certain point where air friction and resistance will prevent more air to be extracted.I hope you meant that as satire....
Tiny holes in the hood is what chokes the flow.
I'd like to know exactly what it's function actually is.Also, not sure how much it helps but ditching the blanket under the hood I've heard helps.![]()
i went with Race Louvers because they have actually gone through the trouble of wind tunnel testing to prove out the concept. Air that enters the grill is allowed to exit the engine compartment through the hood rather than from the engine bay under the car. I have also thought about opening up the grill inlet...you have any suggestions on how much? I believe I will eventually get a new grill, but until then...I'd like to open it all the way up...
As long as you allow the engine to operate at its optimal temperature. Heat is both enemy and friend. Too cool and you can increase engine wear, reduce efficiency, sludge forming, unburnt fuel can create acid type corrosion on cylinder walls.There is no downside to increasing the efficiency of heat removal.
Hood vents alone won't cause this. If the radiator is completely ducted front and rear, you'll start seeing some issues. Add in an oil cooler and you'll never get up to temp under street driving.At what point that actually becomes a thing I have no idea though![]()
